Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Climate Resilience Data Tawa App Design Concepts! This challenge is focused on creating design concepts/visual ideas for an application that will be used by farmers so they can plan in advance for future.

We currently do not have any formal requirements. We are looking for you to provide design concepts and click-paths. This is the first step in planning our mobile user experience!

Note that this challenge is focused on developing concepts for an optimal user experience and interface. The scientific merit of these concepts will need to be further researched.

Round 1

Submit your design for a Checkpoint feedback:
1. Submit your design for the features you selected.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03)

Round 2

Final Design plus Checkpoint feedback:
1. Submit your final designs for the features you selected.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03)

App Description:
Food security is vital to US economy and public health. With global warming influencing the climate conditions as never before, the food production ecosystem starting with farmers should take proactive measures to ensure food security. Tawa app will predict crop yields based on various climate conditions predicted using the data sets provided by NASA, Federal, and other sources. For this purpose the app will communicate with multiple web services providing the following data sets: precipitation, temperature and water required for a successful crop as well as climate induced pest and disease information. Furthermore, climate has a direct impact on fishing and livestock. Consolidating all these complex weather data, Tawa will provide guidance to the farmers and fisheries in a simple and lucid manner. Deep machine learning algorithms will drive the predictive analysis.

We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).

Design Concept Goals:
- How should this application look like?
- How quickly the user can find what he wants?
- The application should be easy to use.
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!
- We want this to be MODERN application design!

Screen Size:
- Mobile Resolution: Design for iPhone 6 Retina Display 750px x 1334px.

Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when resize for retina versions, graphic still look sharp! It will be great if you can provide the landscape version.

Supporting Documents:
- The Tawa App Idea Document (Tawa-app-submission-round-2-all.pdf), this is provided for more background and info about the app.

Required Features:
- We would like you to suggest features/screens that this app incorporate and choose from one or more of the features below that would contribute to a cohesive app.
1) Crop Aware Irrigation Micro Intelligence:
Crop aware/specific climate intelligence is the key feature of Tawa app and differentiator from competition. While the Climate Corp/Monsanto provides the precipitation and other data for the crop field, Tawa app not only provides such data but also very crop specific precipitation requirements, soil moisture requirements and temperature requirements. Based on these requirements, Tawa app suggests how much irrigation is necessary for that particular crop grown in that field and if the irrigation infrastructure is setup to allow sensor controlled valves, then Tawa app can be used to precisely control the time and volume of irrigation based on the crop specific temperature, humidity, soil moisture and precipitation data.

2) Crop Aware Pest and Disease Intelligence:
Tawa app has crop specific pest/disease resistant intelligence depending on the climate prediction, Tawa app will warn the farmers about potential pest/disease prevention depending on the climate forecast.

3) Tawa Agro Network:
Tawa app connects farmers, distributors and consumers in a network in real-time. Tawa app gathers real-time information about consumer behavior from services such as Premise.com and feeds back this information to the farmers/distributors to take specific action on harvesting crops and storing crop yields at appropriate location. This information could be a combination of volume and price of food products depending on consumer demand.

4) Food Ecosystem Intelligence:
Based on deep machine learning technology, Tawa app will have access to long term (at least 13 months) climate forecast. This will help plan the overall food ecosystem including farming, distribution and consumption to be climate resilient. Tawa app suggests alternative sources for water/irrigation depending on the climate intelligence. Tawa app provides crop rotation intelligence. For this, Tawa app uses Farmer social network.

5) Crop Aware Budget Assessment:
Tawa app will compute the overall budget for expenditure for farming a particular crop and provides predictive profit margins on each of the crops to the farmer for making informed decisions.

6) Fish Aware Fishing Intelligence:
Tawa app will infer the impact of ocean and fresh water temperatures on various kinds of fishes and provide appropriate changes in fishing volumes and frequencies that has to be made by fisheries for optimal balance between consumption and conservation.

7) Livestock Aware Wellbeing Intelligence:
Tawa app will analyze temperature and humidity forecasts and inform the farmer about the potential animal stress impact on livestock such as cattle and estimate the reduction in production output.

Important Note: please provide all screens needed to describe the workflow, we'll not look at less than 5 screens as we feel this will not be enough to demonstrate the core ideas of the app.

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance

Target User:
- Farmers and fisheries.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design
- Your design should possible to build and make sense as a mobile application

Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.
