Challenge Summary

Cisco EMSP Technology Overview: The WiFi Engage solution kit, built on the Cisco Enterprise Mobility Services Platform (EMSP) is a location-based mobile app portal studio designed to engage visitors to business locations on their mobile devices when they connect with the location’s Wifi network.  Business verticals types include retail stores, convention centers, hospitals, branch banks, sports stadiums and more.

About the Challenge: This challenge is to design a captive mobile web app template that will be displayed on a guest’s mobile device upon joining an establishment’s WiFi network. Task I is to create a generic template to meet several industry vertical (retail, healthcare, venues, etc) use case needs with a focus on designing the template layout.  Task 2 is to apply the generic template design to both a retail and a venue/event use case.

Target Audience of the UI:
1) Users of the “templates” from this challenge are Content Managers who want to provide location-based experiences to their guests. Content managers can be a Store Marketing Manager, Event Coordinator, Bank Branch Manager, etc.
2) End-users of the completed retail and event templates are visitors to the locations with local access Wifi administered by the retail or venue company.

Additional Challenge Detail
The current administrative dashboard has the capacity to provide customized themes for a “vertical” based on both industry (ie retail, healthcare, sports venue, conference location, educational institution, etc) and an organization’s branding. In this challenge, we’re looking to you to create a more refined user experience and visual design for these templates.

These vertical specific templates are meant to convey “hyperlocal-based content and experiences” - the Wifi network of a specific location will give a customized, captive mobile application experience with location-specific content, e.g. a San Diego store gives different promotions and messages than a New York store.  We encourage you to be creative with the different types of location-based experiences you would want and expect to see while shopping in your favorite store or visiting your favorite conference.  For example, upon selecting a store map, a guest would be presented with a map of the exact store they are standing with map tiles showing the location of the location specific promotions of the day. These promotions would vary from store to store based on store manager’s discretion.

Supporting Documents:

- Branding Guideline (1-Cisco-EMSP-Design-Challenge-Design-Direction.pdf), please use design guidelines section from this document and the workflow section to understand how the end-users will interact with the templates

Desired Resolution for Responsive Design Layout:
- Template Tablet Dimensions: 1280px by 800px (Android) and 2048 by 1536 (iOS)
- Template SmartPhone Dimensions: 1136px x 640px  (iOS 6 iPhone) and 1280px by 780px (Android phone)

The core business challenge:
We need to present a clean and effective UI template as well as providing templates for several verticals that would be implemented using this service.  The verticals to be designed for in this Challenge include
•       Retail - for example a big box store or small retail chain with several locations
•       Venue - Conference or trade show or convention center location

For this Challenge, please show how you would represent:

1. Wifi Engage Portal Template  (represented in the screenshots provided)
- This should represent the general design for the template screens
- The screen is made up of multiple similar modules which are turned on, off and customized by the Content Manager
2. Retail Web App Template Design  (sections of the templates are shown in the screenshots provided)
- These are how the templates would look that the administrator would be then including their own module selections, customizations and content
- Show how the elements being put together in the Template Manager screens would depict the best experiences for retail locations

3. Venue Web App Template Design  (sections of the templates are shown in the screenshots provided)
- These are how the templates would look that the administrator would be then including their own module selections, customizations and content
- Show how the elements being put together in the Template Manager screens would depict the best experience for venue locations

Key Considerations:
- We want the visual designs for both generic  and vertical-specific templates to be user-friendly, professionally slick and aesthetically pleasing
- The templates are meant to be customer-facing, so consider the designs to be the business communicating with their customers in a friendly, professional tone and appearance
- Provide different look/feel for the templates, i.e. a more up-to-date and specialized design, encompassing creative solutions which expand the user experience of the current designs

User Story:
A customer comes into a retail chain’s local store or a conference center’s physical site, and wishes to connect their mobile device to the location’s Wifi network.  A customer would receive a curated mobile application portal as their initial experience which can include news, promotions, venue maps, advertisements and other content based on the specifications established by the template provided by the administrator.  The customer could then select the content options of interest (based on the templates), or otherwise use the Wifi network based on the policies and settings as established by the location or company’s administrator.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you design the screens based on the given requirements
- A consistent experience throughout the dashboard views and template designs
- Any ideas you suggest through your design concepts
- Cleanliness of graphics and design
- Design look, intuitiveness, and User Experience
