Challenge Description:
The client for this project has decided to create a unique visual underwriting tool for Commercial Insurance. This underwriting tool will be a huge departure from traditional tools. We will make it available to internal and external underwriters who write business on our behalf. It combines elements of our underwriting guidelines with rating.
The typical insurance application is very form based. We are looking to create an easy to use, visual experience for underwriters:
- We are looking to both improve the user experience and underwriting results by making the guidelines a part of the visual application (the bell curve) and asking underwriters to justify the opinions that vary from our curve.
- The workflow will be very controlled so that the user always knows what they have completed and where they are in the process. As the underwriter selects class and address, the price and terms bar for each selected coverage should be drawn.
- After they have entered exposure information, pricing options should appear and the user would have the ability provide their own interpretation.>
- There will be various web service calls to interact with our rating engine, google maps, crime statistics and other tools.
- We have attached a file with wireframes that explains this in more detail.
- IMPORTANT: We would like to see creative interpretations of the attached workflow. We believe it can be simplified further.
In this challenge. we are looking for the [topcoder] design community to help us come up with design concepts for the new Write It Now application screens and "user experience" (UX).
Supporting Documents:
- Wireframes (wireframes.pdf) - Please do not copy these screens exactly! We would like to see creative interpretations of the attached workflow.
Branding Guidelines:
- Color palette: See attached Branding Guide for color guidelines.
- Fonts: The combination of Arial, Calibri, Brandon Text and Proxima Nova fonts act as the primary typeface for all brand communications. Standard Document fonts – Word® documents and PowerPoint® –should use the Arial or Calibri font. These are system fonts and will appear consistent across all desktop applications. Brandon Text and Proxima Nova should generally only be used by marketing and design.
- See attached Branding Guide for more details on colors and fonts.
Design Goals:
- How should this new app look?
- What is the best user experience (UX) for the required user flow?
- How can graphics and visual elements be used to make the user experience as simple and intuitive as possible?
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!
Screen Size:
- The new application will be a responsive HTML5 application - it will need to be scalable for different devices (mobile devices, tablets, and desktops).
- For this challenge, you should focus your design on the following screen size:
- Desktop / Tablet: 1024px width and height as required
- Landscape orientation.
- Please consider how your design will work on other devices (i.e. mobile) even though the focus of this first challenge is desktop/tablet.
Main Features:
1: Visual bell curve showing low, typical and high risks. Clicking on a section (low, high, typical) will show characteristics of that type of risk
2: A price and terms bar that shows highest risks had highest price and more restrictive term. Lower risk, lower price and fewer restrictions. The angle of this line is determined by criteria defined in our underwriting guidelines
3: The ability to select one or more coverages from; General Liability, Property, Cyber liability, and professional liability. With a bell curve for each selected coverage
4: For each coverage, the ability to enter exposure information. For instance if we are underwriting a day care, the number of full time and part time kids, number of staff, etc..
5: Based on the input, the system with place the individual risk along the price and terms bar.
6: The underwriter can then plot their own assessment of the risk along the same price and terms bar.
7: Pricing, Limits and deductibles are generated as data is input.
User Flow:
1: Selects type of business (class)
2: Enters basic address information
3: Interacts with underwriting guidelines by clicking on bell curve to see risk characteristics
4: Chooses coverages (General Liability, Property, Cyber and Professional)
5: Enters basic exposure information for each selected coverage
6: Plots their own risk assessment against our price and terms bar
7: Reviews pricing and terms for each coverage
Required Screens:
1) Dashboard:
- After a user logs in they will be able to select the industry of the account they are underwriting.
2) Rating Module:
- User will enter information about the account they are underwriting
- There will be a number of steps involved in this process (See "Main Features" and "User Flow" above and the attached wireframes for more details).
Note: Please don’t copy the wireframe screens exactly! We would like to see your creative interpretations of the attached workflow.
General Guidelines:
- You MUST cover all "Main Features" and "User Flow" steps described in the challenge spec and shown in the wireframes.
- As long as all of this is captured you may break up the screens in the way you feel will result in the best user experience.
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance
- Show all the hover states for all UI elements you create (buttons, hyperlinks, dropdowns, etc).
Target User:
- General Agents underwriting on our authority. Internal Underwriters.
Judging Criteria:
- Overall look-and-feel of the design.
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually.
- How well your responsive design will work on different devices.
- Creativity and ease-of-use is key to the success of this app as it must be engaging to users.
- Any suggestions, interactions and user flows you recommend (provide any notes or comments for the client).
Submission & Source Files:
