Challenge Summary
Welcome to creativity land! We’re thrilled to bring this challenge to our talented community. We want to transform a flat document text that explains how Data Science works into a beautiful and clean PDF.
Round 1
For your R1 deliverables please submit the requested graphic design.
Round 2
Final design will contain all the requested graphic design plus any updates from client feedback.
The primary goal of this challenge is to design a professional looking multiple paged document that explains the how Data Science works.
Sometimes we find hard to explain such technical terms to clients and even our own staff. We have this problem and our approach to a feasible solution would be to create a professional looking design with a clear representation of our process through clean-well-spaced text plus graphics.
Branding and Guidelines
- Files must be created in vector format in CMYK mode.
- Dimensions are 8.5 x 11 inches. Use the provided template (Template.zip - respect margins).
- Appirio and Topcoder logos must be wisely used somewhere in your design, where you feel appropriate.
- Colors and overall feel should match the branding of the Topcoder website. Notice it doesn’t have to feel like a website, so integrate this branding into a document style.
- Fonts are open to creativity. However, after picking a winner we’ll ask to replace the fonts with our brand ones. So try to find similar approaches to the ones you see on the website from the Studio allowed fonts. Use them wisely to make the design attractive, not busy. Declare your fonts according to the Studio font’s policies.
- Focus the style on clean and modern with good use of graphics/icons..
Design Requirements
Overall Content Guidelines
- Create the necessary amount of pages to represent all the content from DataScienceFAQs.pdf. Ideally two pages, if more are needed then create more.
- We envision a simple design, clean background with a clear text pleasant to read. Avoid it to be too word heavy (obviously on the FAQ there are a lot of words though) and techy, it needs to be easily digestible and appealing to a regular person who knows nothing about Data Science.
- Make good use of indentation and section titles formatting (icons could be a good option, optional) for easy understanding of the levels of content hierarchy.
- Page layout is open to creativity.
- You’re encouraged to use high quality graphics to explain key sections of the document such as:
-- Types of challenges.
-- Contestant countries. A world map could be used or some cool representation of this data.
Clients Section
- Make it prominent!
- Use placeholders for the logos.
Workflow Section
- We’d like to see a good representation of the workflow (complete content at MM Workflow.pptx).
- Content is open to creativity to shorten it down a little bit if necessary to produce a good graphic here. This is currently 6-pages but it’s not necessary to break it down in so many pages.
- Ignore the format you see in the PPT file. Layout and shapes of this workflow can be designed at will as long as it makes sense and it’s easy to understand.
Execution Section
- This is represented as a table. If you find a better way to represent this data you’re welcomed to show it.
Reference
- See Reference.jpg.
- We liked the integration of graphics and text to explain content in a professional way, and clean.
Target Audience
Potential clients and Topcoder marketing staff (non savvy about Topcoder platform).
Judging Criteria
- Capability of explaining the content in a clear way.
- Consistency with the current Topcoder website theme.
- Quality.
- Originality and design execution.
