Welcome to AppXpress – Location Matcher Design Concepts Challenge!

LocationMatcher is the first to combine the explosion of the shared economy and vacation travel, with the equally powerful desire for social connections, in targeted vertical markets.

Renting your home and leaving is a drag. Why not open a spare bedroom to someone you may really want to get to know?

Guests and Hosts share common affiliations for an expanded social community, and a source of extra income via renting guest bedrooms.

You are provided with client presentation to guide you and make you understand what the client is looking for.

Challenge Description:
The goal of this application is to connect travelers within similar social circles for the purpose of providing a room to stay while traveling.

You are provided with client presentation so you can understand the application.

We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).

Supporting Documents:

Branding Guidelines:
- Open to designer but first read the last slide for sites to draw from.

Design Goals:
- How should this application be designed?
- Read the user flow and decide what should the priority features be (what is the priority navigation for this user?)
- How quickly the user can find what he wants? What should the priority features be?
- How quickly can the user understand and interact with the app?
- The application should be easy to use.
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!

Main App Features:
1. Matching guests with hosts.
2. Profile a Profile Page.
3. Search for places to Stay.

User Flow:
1. Create a Rich Profile Page.
2. List Rooms available.
3. Search for rooms to stay in.    
4. Search for people to connect with.

User Story 1:
- Julian is a registered guest and host. He is: married, a surgeon, empty nester, age 67 with an open basement he lists on the site with Harvard Alumni as his preferred affiliation. Lives in Fort Collins.
- A newly graduated Harvard alumni who is exploring a residency in Denver searches matches on site and pings Julian.
- Even though a calendar date is not booked, Julian decides to rent basement for two weeks at $50/night plus breakfast, some dinners and lots of advice on the medical pathway ahead.

User Story 2:
- Deb is 52, lives in CT and is semi-retired. Before feeling comfortable listing her house she decides to try it out as a registered guest.
- She searches site for other meditation and yoga lovers and finds a surprising number of matches within 100 miles of her home.
- She contacts Lori, who lives in MA, and has two rooms to rent. Deb decides to book a weekend getaway with her best friend Lisa. The three of them have a great time, Deb becomes a host, and they all remain friends.

Screen Sizes:
- Mobile Resolution: Design for iPhone 6 Retina Display 750px x 1334px.
- Desktop: 1024px width and height as required.|
Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp! It will be great if you can provide the landscape version.

Suggested Screens:
This is a design concepts challenge and those are only suggested screens from us, so please feel free to add anything you think will work good for this app.

- How does the user navigate this application?
- Include navigation that you think fits with this application.
- Focus on the priority items and how things should be sized.

1) Landing Page:
This is the landing page for the application.
- This page should reflect the Share The Give branding and look "premium" in design.
- It should very clearly show what user can do with this application and what the application is all about.
- This page should contain basic info to explain features.

2) Guest and  Hosts  Profile Page:
- Please refer to slide 5.
- Personal Profile has individual’s picture and basic info:
-- Profession.
-- Social Clubs/Groups.
-- Hobbies.
-- Images of guest room/house description. (For hosts)
-- An open box for personal commentary.
-- Dates Available and gender/group preferences.
-- Scale of Profile Strength.
-- Feedback from Guests. (For hosts)
- On the side: (Think how to represent this on mobile?)
-- Images of those with highest compatible ranks.
-- Map with colored pins.
- Please reference slides 7, 8 & 9 for sample profiles.

 

3) Search Page:
- Please refer to slide 6.
- Search options for guests:
-- Once a guest has completed their profile, they are free to search the site using a location for travel or personal area of similarity- profession, group or hobby for a strategic social connection. Finding others with high compatibility is compelling!
-- Personal & Geography Matches: Using the constantly updating digital map, a guest can see those who have compatibility in a 1-5 scale: Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red reflects how high the compatibility rank is, and where they are globally. Imagine!
-- So the user will have the option to search for rooms to stay in and for people to connect with.

4) List Rooms Available Page:
- This page will have a list of available rooms.

5) Online Store Page:
- This page will offer additional products like robes, gifts, etc.

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance

Target audience:
- Guest: Includes Profession, Hobbies, Social Groups, etc. Offers ability to connect with others with high compatibility for general social connections and also ability to travel at reduced rates and stay with like minded hosts around the world.
- Host: List home and bedrooms to rent at discretion to compatible matches.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually.
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design.
- Creativity and ease-of-use is key to the success as it must be engaging to users.
- Making the site something they would check and potentially participate.

Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
