Challenge Summary

Welcome to AppXpress – Goodwill Industries Design Challenge. This challenge is focused on creating design concepts/visual ideas to create a mobile app to allow consumers to track their Goodwill donations via images and tagging; request a pick up or find a drop off center.

Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana, Inc. would like to enhance its mobile presence by creating and deploying an app specifically designed for mobile platforms. This app should function on Apple, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Initially, to speed development and deployment, the focus should be on Android.

In this challenge we are looking for DESIGN CONCEPTS on how this could work. What should the user see and experience when using this app?

Concept Description:
We would like your help in designing an app to allow consumers to track their Goodwill donations via images and tagging; request a pick up or find a drop off center.

We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).

Design Guidelines:
- Use client website for branding guidelines:
www.goodwillindy.org

Design Goals:
- How should this application be designed?
- How quickly the user can find what he wants? What should the priority features be?
- How quickly can the user understand and interact with the app?
- The application should be easy to use.
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!

Screen Sizes:
- Mobile Resolution: Design for Samsung Galaxy S6 Retina Display 1440 x 2560 pixels (~577 ppi pixel density).
- Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp! It will be great if you can provide the landscape version.

Main Features:
1. Photograph items to be donated.
2. Tag items to be donated.
3. Value items to be donated.
4. Request Pick Up or Find Drop off Location.

Suggested Screens & Functionality:
This is a design concepts challenge and those are only suggested screens from us, so please feel free to add anything you think will work good for this app.
0) Navigation:
- How does the user navigate this application?
- Include navigation that you think fits with this application.
- Focus on the priority items and how things should be sized.

1) Registration Page:
The donor can register the app in one of two ways. If they are a Goodwill Rewards member, they can enter their rewards number. The number should be validated against the Rewards data. The demographic data will be presented back to the donor for confirmation and updating. Any changes will be written back to the database. Email address will be required. If a password exists, this will become the mobile password as well. If none exists, the donor will be prompted to create one. This will then become the password in the Rewards system.

If they do not enter a Rewards card number, they will be prompted to set up a profile. P erhaps asked if they would like to become a member based on the entered address.

Once the profile is established the “skin” will change if a) they are Rewards member or b) they enter an address inside our geographic territory. This will be the Goodwill Indy branded skin.

2) Donation Locator:
Provides location of nearest place to donate based on current GPS or home address based on user input.

3) Store Locator:
Provides location of nearest place to shop based on current GPS or home address based on user input.

4) Donation Tracker:
The primary feature of the app will be to allow the donor to track their donations.

5) Scheduler:
Schedule a home or commercial pick up.

They will be able to add items to a pending donation list. To add the item, they will be prompted to photograph it (optional). A few radio buttons will be provided to help the categorize it and describe it. These categories should map to Goodwill Indy categories AND where possible to the categories in “ItsDeductible.com” from Intuit. They will then be prompted to provide a brief description of the item. Finally, they will be asked to evaluate the condition (again, using “ItsDeductible.com” as a model).

A value will be assigned by calling “ItsDeductible.com”. (Note: the EULA must state that the value assigned is not be assigned by Goodwill Industries of Central Indiana and it is the responsibility of the user of the app to ensure the item is valued per the IRS guidelines.)

Once all items have been entered (and this could be over the course of several weeks), the donor will have the option of scheduling a home pickup, or finding the location of the nearest donation point. Home pick up will not be an option if the address is outside our geographic territory.

If Home Pick Up is selected, the app will determine if the donation meets an adjustable threshold for home pickup (value of items, number of items, size of items). A home pick up will be scheduled. If it does not meet the threshold, the app will provide feedback to the donor on why and where the nearest donation point is located.

6) Donation Transaction:
Home Pick Up when a home pick up is performed, the Goodwill employee will log the donation and an alert will be sent to the app.

7) Drop Off:
When a drop off donation is performed, the donor must:
A) scan their Reward card or
B) have the mobile device with the app on it with them.
If B) they open the app, the app will confirm they are within range of a donation drop off and allow them to confirm drop off. In either case, an alert will be sent to the app.

Once the alert is received, the donor will have the option to select all, or some of the pending items and confirm donation. A customizable message will be displayed thanking them for the donation and tying their donation to mission. These items are then part of their end of year donation tracking.

Notes: Home pick up will not be available outside our territory. In addition, the donor needs someway to confirm a donation if A) they reside outside our territory or B) an alert is not received.

8) Year End:
A record of all donations made during the calendar year can be reviewed and printed.

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance

Target Audience:
- Goodwill Industries Consumers in Central Indiana.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually.
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design.
- Your design should possible to build and make sense as a mobile application.
