Challenge Summary
Welcome to AppXpress – Diving Team USA Tablet App Design Concepts Challenge!
This challenge is focused on creating design concepts/visual ideas to create a Tablet App to allow athletes and coaches to input and view data relative to training loads, record videos of dives and view athlete metrics, both as individual athlete and how they compare to the group. So at the end of the day coaches and athletes can have a better understanding of how they are performing.
In this contest we are looking for DESIGN CONCEPTS on how this Tablet Application could work. What should the user see and experience when using the application?

Concept Description:
The goal of the app is to allow athletes and coaches to input and view data relative to training loads, record videos of dives and view athlete metrics, both as individual athlete and how they compare to the group. So at the end of the day coaches and athletes can have a better understanding of how they are performing.
We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).
Design Guidelines:
- Use the client logo for branding guidelines.
Supporting Documents:
- USA Diving Logo (USADivingLogo2014.jpg.zip)
Design Goals:
- How should this application be designed?
- How quickly the user can find what he wants? What should the priority features be?
- How quickly can the user understand and interact with the app?
- The application should be easy to use.
- Think simple but effective solutions! Have fun creating this - let us know how you think it should work!
Screen Sizes:
- Tablet Resolution: Design for iPad 2 Retina Display 2048px x 1536px.
Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp! It will be great if you can provide the landscape version.
Main Features:
1. Training load data from athletes.
2. Video recordings of individual dives.
3. Coaches dashboard to view athlete metrics, both as individual athlete and how they compare to the group.
4. Simple descriptive stats, leaderboards, scoreboards, etc.
User Story For Coach:
- Luis is US Coach.
- Luis opens the app and views the dashboard from where he can access every other page in the application.
- Luis can video record the dives of his athletes using the application.
- Luis can view training data for all athletes.
- Luis can view athlete metrics for each athlete and can enter metrics for each athlete in his profile page.
- Luis can view Descriptive stats, Leaderboards and Scoreboards for athletes.
User Story For Athlete:
- Mia is US athlete.
- Mia opens the app and views the dashboard from where she can access every other page in the application.
- Mia can video record the dives she performs.
- Mia gets out of pool after each dive and go to her profile page and enter her metrics and hits save.
- Mia can only view her own training data.
- Mia can view her own Descriptive stats.
User Scenario:
- Divers walk up to the platform (1m, 3m, 5m, 7m, 10m), take about 30 seconds either waiting for fellow divers to dive or to prepare, perform dive (usually lasting 2 seconds), swim to the edge of the pool, climb up, and head to the iPad. So all in all, you have about 15 seconds from end of dive until they get to the iPad.
- We added this so YOU can understand the context of what is going to happen.
Suggested Screens & Features:
This is a design concepts challenge and those are only suggested screens from us, so please feel free to add anything you think will work good for this app.
0) Navigation:
- How does the user navigate this application?
- Include navigation that you think fits with this application.
- Focus on the priority items and how things should be sized.
1) Splash Screen:
- Design for us a nice splash screen for the application.
2) Sign in Page:
- Each user needs to sign in by filling:
-- Username.
-- Password.
-- Forgot password link.
-- Remember me checkbox.
-- Login button.
3) Dashboard Page:
- Please notice that dashboard will be different depending on user role.
- From this page user will be able to access all the features and pages of this application:
-- Video Recording.
-- Training data.
-- Athlete metrics.
-- Descriptive stats, Leaderboards and Scoreboards.
- We also need the ability to easily switch between users from within the application.
4) Video Recording Page:
- From this page user will be able to record individual dives.
- Video recording needs to be performed through an external camcorder, so it needs to be triggered wireless from the iPad.
- How you will show this?
5) Training Data Page:
- We need to show following data for Training for all athletes:
-- What did the diver use for his dive: Platform or springboard?
-- Height for the dive: 1m, 3m, 5m, 7m, 10m.
-- Evaluation for each dive: not so good, good, very good.
- Coach can view all athletes training data but an athlete can only view his own training data, think how will you capture this?
6) Athlete Metrics (Profile) Page:
- We need to show following data for Training for a specific athlete.
-- What did the diver use for his dive: Platform or springboard?
-- Height for the dive: 1m, 3m, 5m, 7m, 10m.
-- Evaluation for each dive: not so good, good, very good.
- If the athlete opens his profile he/she can enter her metrics and save them.
- Athlete Coach can also enter athlete metrics.
7) Descriptive stats, Leaderboards and Scoreboards Page:
- In this page we need to show:
-- Averages, minima, maxima of number of dives, grouped by platform/springboard and/or by height.
- Think how should this be designed?
- Coach can view descriptive stats, leaderboards and Scoreboards, but athlete can only view descriptive stats.
Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance
Target Audience:
- Team USA Olympic diving athletes and coaches.
Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually.
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design.
- Your design should possible to build and make sense as a mobile application.
Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.
Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.
Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file.
