Challenge Summary
Welcome to GE Mobile Planogram Inventory Management Ideation Challenge! The focus of this challenge is taking an existing ‘Indoor locationing’ mobile application idea and thinking through new ideas on how to operationally track retail inventory while also making the mobile application fun and engaging to use.
The ‘Indoor locationing’ mobile application will be used by retail staff and management to have an enhanced "operational view" of their inventory using indoor GPS. Essentially inventory and planogram management via a mobile tool. This app will be used to map products, understand inventory and know where everything "should be" in the store and if it needs to be restocked and have the ability to make adjustments on a planogram map ensure planogram map accuracy.
GE would like the Topcoder community to begin the front-end innovation process by first thinking through the art of the possible with an Ideation Challenge.

Challenge Details
The "Indoor locationing" application will provide retail staff a quick way to navigate, locate, track and restock within their store. This application will be retail and operationally focused. We want to not only understand inventory but also understand if everything is where it should be in the store referenced on a planogram map. We are interested in exploring gamification (operational), inventory mapping, planograms and keeping the application engaging, fun with purpose, etc.
~
Idea Generation Objective
A planogram improvement app to provide audit tracking and inventory monitoring for operational Sales Associates in time increments.
~
Assumptions:
- Indoor GPS is available/works
- We already have a point of sale system in place - we are not looking to replace that.
Things to think about:
- "Indoor locationing" will be a responsive application (phone and tablet).
- Indoor navigation features can incorporate gamification, product information and ratings
- indoor geocoding and coordinate data can translate back into current and historical information
- Operational use
- Retail focus
- Inventory and planogram management (is everything where you think it is)
- Restocking: Not only location but where on the shelf (aisle/height/space)
- Example: Cereal Sections: Cheerio section (are the Cheerios in the correct slot/placement)
- Replenish process - validating those things are accurate.
This is an Open Innovation exercise to explore the art of the possible
