Challenge Summary
We will be awarding 41 $100 prizes for this competition. One $100 prize for each of the countries defined below and 3 $100 prizes for the best global solutions that affect multiple countries.
Faith Comes By Hearing (FCBH) develops mobile applications that play an audio version of the Bible. Bible.is is their full version of the mobile application. But FCBH is also developing a lightweight version of application, known as their Cyber App 1.6, that hosts an audio version of the Bible targeted at a particular language. Currently, FCBH provides the recorded Bible in approximately 900 languages but is focusing their distribution of Cyber App at following countries:
Faith Comes By Hearing is passionate about spreading the “Word”. And they are looking to the Topcoder community to help generate suggestions about how to rapidly spread their apps through the designated regions. In this challenge, FCBH is hoping to answer the following questions:
- FCBH is already using Facebook and Twitter extensively, but is hoping to go deeper to reach users who don’t speak a “Business” language like English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, or Japanese. What is the best way to spread knowledge of the the application across various regional social graphs? If you have knowledge about language-specific social networks, online bulletin boards, or other informal information sources in the countries listed above, this is helpful information for FCBH.
- How can we best utilize other people’s networks.
Round 1
Submit your ideas for a checkpoint review.
Round 2
Submit your final idea plus any checkpoint updates.
Submission Guidelines
You should submit a text document which answers the question: How can the application be distributed widely as possible? This can be a suggestion for global distribution or for a more regional idea in one of the targeted areas. Please provide sufficient detail to explain and describe your suggestion. You are, essentially, being asked to write a marketing plan for a particular country with an emphasis on low cost and peer-to-peer distribution. Don't forget to mention which country or countries you are targeting with your ideas.
Since this is a design track challenge you have to submit a submission.zip, a source.zip, and a preview.png. Please enclose your proposal document in your submission.zip. The source.zip and preview.png have be submitted but are not important for this challenge. You can just zip up a single placeholder file for the source.zip. The preview.png can also be any image that is convenient on your system.
Target Audience
The document that you are writing will be evaluated by the FCBH digital strategy staff which is working hard to make the Cyber 1.6 application available to people around the world. This particular version of the application is configured for Android devices and is set up to allow users to share both the app and the content without internet connectivity.
Evaluation Criteria
The submissions will be evaluated by 2 subjective criteria: 70% of your score will be based on the reach of solution proposed -- the number of people that your solution contacts. In order to receive a "10" on this dimension your set of solutions will need to have the potential to reach 10% or more of the population of the target country. A "9" would reach 9%, an "8", 8% etc. You will need to provide some basis for your assertions by documenting the sources of your information. The remaining 30% will be based on the quality of your submission -- the clarity of the ideas, the strength of your assertions and the creativity of your solution.
Prizes
We'll be awarding a $100 prize for the best solution for each country listed above. In addition, to the regional solutions, the 3 submissions that have the best global ideas will also receive $100 prizes. The global prizes will be evaluated on the same basis as the regional prizes. You are eligible to win a prize for more than one country.
