Challenge Summary

Can we change the way we see the world through Intelligent Lighting??

We are at the dawn of a new kind of intelligence, one that will transform the way we live, work and interact.
What if your street light could point you to the closest parking spot? What if it could find your lost dog? What if the ceiling fixture in your favorite store gave you coupons or directed you to the shortest check-out line?  We know that is only the beginning!

Our team at Current is pulsing the big brains of the world (including yours!) for bright ideas around the type of apps and sensors that we should build into our Intelligent LED fixtures.

What's your amazing Intelligent Environments app idea?  Help us consider your light-bulb moment!  Just think of a sensor and/or Application that we could build within a lighting fixture where the unique vantage point of the lighting--above us--might draw special benefit.

We will be rewarding 10 checkpoint prizes and 10 final winners - jump in and submit your ideas!

Important Rule for all Ideation Challenges
You are allowed to submit your ideas at any time during this challenge. You are also allowed to submit to the final phase even if you did not submit to the checkpoint phase. All ideation submissions will be accepted (that pass screening). Note: while we are allowing this challenge to be "open" we do recommend you submit to the checkpoint so we can review and provide valuable feedback. Good luck!

Round 1

Initial ideas for client review and feedback.

Round 2

All final ideas!

Challenge Details
In this challenge, GE is asking the Topcoder community to ideate on application concepts that blend apps/sensors and lights! Think of a GE sensor or software technology that we could build within a lighting fixture where the unique vantage point of the lighting (above us) would provide benefit. How can we use GE sensors, data and lighting to create an experience unique to each of us?  How can this allow us to transform the way we live? Work? Shop? Park?   Follow the "Deliverables" section and submit your ideas!!

What are some use cases for Intelligent Environments?
An intelligent building or city doesn't just make your facility and operation more efficient... it can help you create customized solutions based on data. If it can be imagined; it can be achieved! For example:

- Intelligent Cities... facial recognition tied to local crime databases or real-time noise pollution monitoring
- Intelligent Office... efficient employee scheduling... which can tie to ride-share services
- Intelligent Retail... multi-venue navigation... or customer loyalty and custom gamification
- Intelligent Parking... peak space utilization

Deliverables
- We are looking for ideas! - but we also need a structure to your ideas so we can understand them and make it easier when reviewing.
- Your ideas should also be realistic..and ideally solving for a specific market need!

1) Idea: High level overview/statement of the idea: one or two sentences describing your idea

2) Name: Idea/App name and any "tagline" you would like to associate with your idea. (This does help during evaluation!)

3) The User Story: This is critical. 2-3 paragraphs of what the application accomplishes, the main benefits a user will experience and in what situations would the user want to use the application.

4) Key Feature Sets: Also critical - since your concept is truly a mash-up between digital and physical solution we need you to pinpoint key features a user would engage. How does this solve for more Intelligent Enterprises or Intelligent Cities?  We also require you to describe what the features enable in terms of provided service, ease of use, etc. (commercially feasible features).

5) Sensors: Please share which Indoor or Outdoor sensors you think your idea would leverage.

6) Details: Any sketches, wireframes or designs/images to better explain and pitch your idea.

7) Pitch: Imagine trying to sell your App - look to present your solution in a professional manner

8) Video: Optional: It would be great if you can verbally explain your app via video. Your video can be shot on a mobile device or webcam to keep this as easy as possible.

Important Note:
Although there is no limit to the number of submissions you can upload, you should only upload multiple submissions if each one is substantially different from your others. Within these constraints, you are free to describe any number of alternative approaches and extra features. In fact, we encourage you to do so. You can't have too many ideas.
