Challenge Overview

Welcome to “Introduce Internationalization (i18n) to an existing app” contest. As part of this contest, you need to abstract all texts in our application and read them from language specific files instead.

Project Overview

The Analytics Dashboard site will serve as a tool for users to build, configure and monitor a dashboard of data, statistics and analytics for their specific industry. It will be used by industry professionals and will contain charts, graphs, analytics, statistics etc that will allow the user to make more informed decisions and monitor trends throughout their specific industry. The dashboard will be designed around a series of user configurable widgets.

Contest Details

We have already created a UI Prototype of this application. Currently, all texts and formatting is directly present. We would like you to move these texts to a separate file and then depending on the selected language, show the appropriate translation text.

The prototype is already using Angularjs. Thus, we would like you to use Angular Translate in your submission. You need to set aside each text in the prototype that is not an image. The dummy texts (Lorem Ipsum) need not be translated. You need to provide translations for:

  1. English (Default)

  2. French

Kindly make sure that the translations / text exist in a separate file which is then read during bootstrapping the application. Unlike their documentation which specifies the translated text from within the app initializer, store the translations in a different file (that only contains the translations) and then read it during run time. Best that you create a file for each supported language.

We do not have translations for French. Thus, what we would like you to do instead is use Google Translate for the texts that are prominent and then demonstrate that switching the language switches the translations too. This is purely for review purpose. The client will eventually use their own translations. You will not be judged for the translated text - you will be judged based on the following:

  1. How you have organized your submission and integrated translations in the application

  2. How easy you have made it for any additional texts’ translations to be easily added and updated.

  3. That each text in the existing app has been captured as part of the translation

Final Submission Guidelines

  1. Create a private / unlisted Youtube video demonstrating your solution

  2. Submit your solution through the Submit and Review tool for this contest

  3. Document how the client would add an additional language in the future. A simple README file will suffice.
