Challenge Summary
Welcome to Combating IS Design Challenge!
In this challenge we are looking for your best UI designs and concepts to design a web application that will provide a mocked up web app that will allow users to identify money exchanges between ISIL affiliates and others, with a focus on these two types of information:
1. Where and how does ISIL receive its financial support:
-- From regional sources (Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar).
-- From technical sources (oil fields, banks, taxation, currency manipulation).
2. What is ISIL's current financial state:
-- Information about real estate, wealth holdings, refinery output, etc.
-- Publicized purchases of investments, etc.
Round 1
Submit your design for a Checkpoint feedback:
01 Login Page.
02 Map Page.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03)
Round 2
Final Design plus any Checkpoint feedback:
01 Login Page.
02 Map Page.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03)
Challenge Description:
The goal of this challenge is to design a web application to provide a mocked up web app that will allow users to identify money exchanges between ISIL affiliates and others.
This will assist the defense and intelligence communities with identifying ISIS threats in the MENA, and elsewhere. Also provide detailed information regarding ISIS affiliates to defense and intelligence personnel on the ground.
We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).
User Flow:
- User logs into the application.
- The user is presented with a map displaying previously found information.
- User runs a real-time search to crawl the internet for information that they desire.
- As the search progresses, information that has been found is plotted on the map in real-time.
- This data is saved and user can specify a timeframe of past-data that they desire to plot.
Required Screens:
01 Login Page:
- App name: Combating IS.
- App logo. An exploration is fine here but designing a logo is not a requirement here.
- Username.
- Password.
- Forgot password link.
- Remember me checkbox.
- Sign in button
02 Map Page:
- How and what information is displayed on the map is again up to the designer, but we want:
-- Financial routes (where is the money coming from).
-- Financial providers (who is the money coming from).
-- Financial situation (what money do they have) if possible.
- The following images (Please refer to example maps.zip) are a good representation of how we would want the scoured data to be displayed. Depending on the amount of geo tagged or location-specific data available, either interactive or static maps would be ideal. The last two maps (Map 4 & Map 5) depict the division of control by different groups, including ISIL, in Iraq and Syria. Ideally, our tool would collect financial information and be able to display it on a map that also shows what territory is controlled by what group, as well as other ISIL-related information. The currency manipulation graph (Map 3) would be useful output from the tool if, for example, information was collected with no specific location attached.
-- Note Map 2 is approximately one year old.
Required Functionality:
- The user is presented with a map displaying previously found information.
- User runs a real-time search to crawl the internet for information that they desire.
- As the search progresses, information that has been found is plotted on the map in real-time.
- This data is saved and user can specify a timeframe of past-data that they desire to plot.
Branding:
- Branding is open, however your color usage and contrast ratios should be carefully accessed.
- Make sure your web app remains clean and modern, and more importantly, extremely easy to use and understand.
Screen Requirements:
- Your solution needs to consider Responsive Design when viewed on Portrait and Landscape view of Tablet device.
- Desktop: 1280px width (height can expand to fit content).
- Target iPhone 6: 750px by 1334px (Portrait orientation).
Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp!
Target Audience:
- Defense and intelligence personnel on the ground.
- DIA analysts, NMEC analysts, etc.
- Booz Allen departments studying ISIS.
Judging Criteria:
- Concepts and ideas presented.
- Overall UI design and layouts.
- How well the UX follows modern flows and current best practices.
Submissions & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.
Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files. Make sure you are labeling and numbering your files in the correct order. Example: 01FileName.png, 02FileName.png, 03aFileName.png, 03bFileName.png, etc. It would be great to split your designs into 2 folders: “Candidate” and “Hiring Manager”
Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD files.
Final Fixes:
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback. See more information about Final Fixes
Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.
