Challenge Summary

Welcome to Living Progress - Educational Pinboard - Wireframe Challenge!

This project aims at creating a web application for teachers and students around the world to easily find, collect and modify high quality educational materials at no cost.

We are looking for wireframe (axure) solutions based on requirements from our client. We’re also looking to the community to come up with interesting ideas for the workflow - we’re absolutely open to creative solutions!

At the end of this wireframe challenge, we are looking to have a complete solution for the user experience and flow of the application.

NOTE: We need this product to be Simple, Smart, engaging.

This challenge is part of the HPE Living Progress Challenge Blitz Program (Secure top placements in the leaderboard to grab addiitional cash prizes)

This responsive web application would provide an easy to use tool for educators and students around the world to access relevant, high quality educational materials at no cost. Teachers could further make use of this application by collecting and organizing OER (Open Educational Resource), make comments and notations, easily customize them to fit the needs of their students, and implement them in their teaching and learning platforms.

Current Problem:
There are already tens of thousands of open educational resources (OER), authored and used by faculty from leading educational institutions around the world, available to everyone right now at no cost, For example: OER Libraries, such as MERLOT (www.merlot.org) and OER Commons (www.oercommons.org) represent vast collections of OER but the potential of open education has not been fully realized due to the limitations in finding, modifying, and integrating these materials into institutional learning management systems.

Solution; Development of an Intuitive Web Application:
The Open Education Consortium proposes development of an intuitive web application that streamlines finding, collecting and modifying open educational resources. Providing an easy to use tool, the Educational Pinboard, could allow educators and students around the world to access relevant, high quality educational materials at no cost. This could take the form of a Pinterest like web application, that is intuitive for educators to use and share.

Wireframe Expectations:
- You must create traditional wireframe call-outs and notes
- Provide us with your interaction and click-path thoughts and suggestions
- The website must be very easy to use and intuitive. Keep that in mind when create your solution for the layout and flow information.
- Focusssing on creating a web application (desktop), so have your screens of width 1024px and height as required!

IMPORTANT - Application Users:
This application is used by 3 types (Educators, Learners and Admins) of users, its critical to create separate flows for each of the users...these users have some common funcitonalities but certain users have some additional funcitonalites which are mentioned below, please pay attention to those!

General Functionalities for All Users:
These are some of the pages that would be common for all types of users..

01 Login and Create Account:
- Registered users will be able to login to the application
- All users to this site will be able to create an account
- Users should have the ability to login or create an account using their Social media accounts like Google, Facebook or they should be able to create an account using their email (in which case, they will need to login with their username and password).
- We would need a way for the user to tell us the type of user (teacher / student)!

02 Landing Page:
- Looking for an engaging landing page that will act as single point of entry to all types of users (teachers, students)
- How can we engage all user types and how could we direct the attention to the features that are available to them?
- Looking forward to your ideas on how to make this page compelling.

03 Search:
- All users should have the basic ability to search for resources
- Probably we need the search to prominent on the page and should be accessible in all pages..

04 Pinboard:
- Once a user is logged in they should be able to view a dedicated pinboard similar to Pinterest (card layout but it would be good to have an option to view it as a list layout as well) .
- They should be able to see a list content / educational resources that were collected by them from the web or other users resources that were pinned by them.
- Should allow multiple collections to be created.
- We are looking for ideas on what else need to be shown, keep it simple!
- Should be able to cluster the resources by topic or type and organize them into collections.
- Should have the ability to add comments to the collections
- Feel free to add anything that you think would improve the user experience.

05 Resources:
These are the individual educational resources that could of any material such as books, articles, research data, videos, simulations, and courses.
- Would be great to have a content scoring/rating that helps to know the “Quality of content” (we are open to your ideas).
- Provide ability to pin the resource to their collections.
- Allow sharing of the resource
- Provide ability to comment on resources, having comment feature is particularly important so the user can make notes on their impressions of the resource, how it could be used, ways it could be modified for greater relevance, etc.

Specific User Functionalities:
Below, we have tried to explain the features that will required for each type of user...you are free to add these features to appropriate pages as you see fit.

A. Educators:
These are educators/teachers who would have access to all features except administrative features..below are some specific functionalities that educators have in addition to the above use-cases.

New Content Posting:
- Allow bookmarking of sites (Collect Open Educational Resources) from web (from individual websites or images, videos from flickr & youtube)  that is of interest
- It would good to know the usage of the content that were created i.e. would have access to some basic analytics, for example, how many other user’s pinned their content.
- Message board to have dialogue between content creator & data explorers
- Users can comment on resources in general (like feedback to the resource author)
- Using comment as a way of making notes about the resource (such as "use this as an enrichment resource")

Other features:
- Allow them to organize these educational resources they collect into topical units or type of activity which would make it easy for educators.
- Sharing and commenting can spur the collaboration that teachers are looking for to improve the teaching and learning experience.
- Create collections of resources that correspond to a particular class, unit or topic is extremely useful for educators,
- Provide ability to share these collections with other educators who may be seeking materials for the same subject or problem.
- Allow remixing and arranging pins to create a “lesson plan” by having suitable content and collections.
- The pinboard could be organized around a learning outcome, or around a subject area.
- Pinning the resources together will let teachers weave them into their existing lesson plans more easily
- Ability to share plans (e.g., Link to American History unit similar to a playlist)

B. Learners:
These are independent students at college level and competency based learners, and have same access as Educators.

Bookmarking
- We would like the user to be able to bookmark related content from the web (from individual websites or images, videos from flickr & youtube) as well as adding content from an existing pinboard onto their pinboard
- We would like learners to use the app to create a collection of learning resources that they would like to use, or that they find helpful to understanding a topic, concept, or subject
- Provide ability to comment on resources, having comment feature is particularly important so the user can make notes on their impressions of the resource, how it could be used, ways it could be modified for greater relevance, etc.
- They will be able to create collections which is a group of resources!

C. Site Administrator:
These users would have access to administrative functions, analytics and ability to delete accounts or content that didn’t meet site use conditions

Manage Accounts / Permissions and Contents:
- They should be to manage all users and contents that are posted to the site.
- Should have the ability to delete any content that are irrelevant.
- They will be able to delete an account if site terms are not.
- They should be able to create an account / add another user as administrator.

Reporting:
- We need a way for the admins to view the reports
- What all reports do you think would be useful for this app..? For example: Basic website analytics of use (number of visitors & accounts, frequency, geographic location, time on site, referrals, site drop offs and when, how many collections created,) and Content usage metrics
