Challenge Summary
This challenge is part of the HPE Living Progress Challenge Blitz Series. Competitors who win challenges in this series will compete in a leaderboard and earn points towards additional cash prizes.
This project aims at creating designs for a responsive application that focusses on empowering women to be better community advocates by providing actionable toolkits and real world lessons to enable them to be more effective in creating lasting change within their communities.
This is a follow-up challenge, on this challenge we need focus on designing the Chapter/Story/Scene/scene details for the script that the client provided. In the end of this challenge, your submissions need appear as single set of storyboard design.
Design Problem
Everyone should be able to receive an education, to speak freely, to live free from violence and to participate in the political processes of their country. However, millions of women and girls are denied basic rights just because they are female. Community organizing and advocacy (public support) are proven and powerful tools for women to gain power, but few have experience or opportunities for training in this field.
Solution: Open Narrative Gaming Platform:
Sheventures is an open narrative gaming platform designed to help women around the world learn how to advocate for change within their communities. Narrative games, or playable stories, are text and image based open game worlds where players choose their responses to prompts in an evolving story where they are in control. This fun and interactive adventure will take women and girls through a number of exciting journeys where they make decisions on how to manage an advocacy campaign to advance the rights of women in a fictional environment. Their successes and failures will teach women how to effectively advocate for political, economic, social and institutional change developing real-world advocacy skills to apply in their communities.
The adventure narratives within the game will be based upon real world examples and advocacy methodologies with demonstrated impact through NDI’s (National Democratic Institute) 30 years supporting global organizing. The platform framework is designed to be adaptable, growing easily to add new narratives or language translations.

1). Intro Text
In the land of Dystopia, women are not allowed to go to college. The old dragons that lead the community all agree that further education is entirely unnecessary. Women are only needed for cleaning, cooking, and taking care of children, and beyond the basics of reading and writing education is unnecessary. Indeed, it can lead to dangerous questions about why exactly Dystopian society is structured the way it is...
You, {VAR(Character_Name)}, are a young woman who’s just finished your high school education. Through diligent hard work you graduated at the top of your class, beating out all the gnomes, centaurs, trolls, and young dragons in your class - to their great frustration.
But that’s it. No more education for you. Time to decide between the most promising career paths ahead. You’ve currently got tempting offers as a troll’s scullery maid, stable cleaner for the centaurs, or water carrier for the dragon baths.
The city council in your college town will be meeting next month, and on the agenda is some minor changes to the University charter. You know that there are other people in Dystopia - humans, yes, but also other progressive-minded citizens. You know that according to ancient tradition that if you can get 500 signatures on a valid petition, that the council is required to consider it. And who knows, maybe they’ll even agree.
2). Random Event Popup
As you collapse exhausted at home after a your hard day’s work, you get a surprised to get a call on your videophone. Clicking on the floating display, you see the face of the crotchety but basically town Clerk. “Hi Mordecai” you say. The gnome, you can see, seems to be sweating a bit. Is that tension in his voice? “Hello {VAR(Character_Name)}? I wanted to let you know we’ve reviewed the signatures we’ve received so far on your petition, and {RANDOM(10-30)} percent of them are invalid. Have a nice night.” As he signs off, you swear you hear a rumbling chuckle in the background.
LOSE {N * 1/RANDOM} SIGNATURES!
3). Victory Text
As the city council moves to consider the university reform package, the chair - a particularly old and dyspeptic dragon - growls “Are there any comments from the citizens?"
Knees shaking, you approach the microphone.
“Yes, Mr Chairman. I have {VAR(SIGNATURES)} here in support of the proposition that women should be allowed to attend university too!"
You drop the stack of parchment on the table with a thump.
You feel the eyes of the council boring into you in silence for what seems an eternity.
Mordecai the town Clerk bustles up behind you and bumps you out of the way, grabbing the microphone. Bending it down to his level, he asserts in his querulous tone “Honorable councilors, my office has verified these signatures and can confirm that the petition is valid!"
Suddenly, most of the chamber behind you bursts into raucous applause.
Some of the council smiles; others glare at you balefully.
“Weeeee will take thissss… under advissssement” states the Dragon Chair. “We will procssseed to reeeecsssessssss."
The council deliberates for a long time, but eventually returns with its decision. Beginning next fall, women will be permitted to attend University on the same footing as all the other citizens of Dystopia!
CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE VICTORIOUS!

4). Defeat Text
You weren’t able to get the necessary number of signatures before today’s council meeting. Mordecai at the Clerk’s office had sighed heavily, peered over his glasses, and told you firmly that no, {VAR(SIGNATURES)} was not enough to present a formal petition to the council. He seemed… disappointed, if you could read that through his grumpy demeanor.
You attend the council meeting anyway, sitting dispirited in the back. As the city council moves to consider the university reform package, the chair - a particularly old and dyspeptic dragon - growls “Are there any comments from the citizens?"
You approach the microphone. Clearing your throat, you begin in a plaintive voice “Councilors, it is outrageous that women are not allowed to go to University!” You find your microphone is cut off. “Thanksssss for your opinionsssss, human.” sneers the chair Dragon. “Nexssssst?” "But it’s NOT FAIR!” you yell into the mic. “This has to CHANGE NOW!” As you warm up for a good rant, you see the chair Dragon nod at a the Sargent At Arms trolls. They grab you by the shoulders and carry you out of the room. They don’t head for the front door, though. To your surprise they hustle you out back - where they unceremoniously chuck you into the dumpster behind the building. Ugh. Tuesdays are when they clean out the stables where the adolescent centaurs go to school.

Top level menu
1) Is it really against the law for women to go to university?
C: Well it’s not a law per se, it’s more just an administrative decision of the city council and University I guess.
A): I don’t think that’s fair, do you?
C: Fair’s got little to do with the law, and nuthin' with those stuffy jerks at the University.
H: Did you have a bad time there?
C: Yeah, the old fogies that run that place are terrible. I got expelled just because chewed up the floor with some new shoes one day. They were these super sweet Doc Martins but i shouldn’t have been wearing the iron in the dining hall for the school dance - but there were these cute fillies, you know...
H: That sounds so unfair for one little mistake! They have it in for the centaurs too, don’t they?
C: You know, you’re right. The dragons were always lighting stuff on fire when they sneezed after drinking too much and they never got into trouble.
H: That’s why we need to change things! I have a petition for the city council here that women should be allowed to attend the university too. We need to stand up against those dragons!
C: You know, that would shake things up. *Whinnies* Here, gimme your petition, and I’ll get the other guys here to sign it too.

B) You’re the police! This is unjust! You are part of the problem and need to fix it!
C: I need to fix it? *snort* Listen, I’ve got more than enough to do taking care that gang of kobold thieves and the dwarves trying to hack the Gnome’s online bank and those giants that up and ate a whole trainload of citizens last week.
C: Clear out. I’m busy.

2) Looks like you’re losing pretty badly.
C: Looks like you have quite a mouth on you for a human. Get out of here, we’re closed.
H: But you don’t close for another hour!
C: Today we do. Apparently I need to practice my backhand. Leave now before i decide to let you stay a good long time… in the dungeon.

3) I was wondering what the rules on petitions are
C: *Heavy sigh* Petitions?
H: Yeah, petitions. I want to put a resolution in front of the Council.
C: *Pauses game, pulls up a virtual card catalogue* "OK, so according to the code, you can collect petitions in public places like the street or square, but you’re not allowed to do so on private property directly. You have to be at least 30 feet away from the entrance to any place like the store, or you can be arrested"
C: “The petition has to be signed with a proper nano ink pen - mauve only, of course. The name, address and race need to match the citizen registry - as does the signature itself.
H: Thanks very much! this is incredibly useful.

4) Why are those women locked up in the dungeon?
C: I dunno, maybe they asked too many questions

C: Bye now *Picks up the controller and switches back to holotennis*
