Challenge Summary

Welcome to CMI Survey - Design Challenge!

In this challenge, we are looking for you to design a survey-based web assessment tool.  The purpose of this challenge is to design the foundation of user experience for the tool, which will be carried forward during the future phases of prototyping and developing.

The purpose of the assessment tool  is for organizations to gauge the potential of their digital transformation initiatives for responding to market change and driving business outcomes.

Round 1

Submit your initial design for a checkpoint feedback:
1. Survey Questions.
2. Results Page.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03).

Round 2

Final design plus checkpoint feedback:
1. Survey Questions.
2. Results Page.
- If you have time - please provide us with a click map for your design.
- Readme.jpg : Provide notes about your submission.
- Make sure all pages have correct flow! Use correct file numbering. (00, 01, 02, 03).

Challenge Description:
The goal of this challenge is to design the survey question screens with iconic and gamification elements that deliver a unique and engagement user experience while still maintaining a professional edge - think tech space, senior decision-maker roles, and large corporations.

The design should also include an interactive results screen that will appear immediately after users submit their survey responses. As with the assessment survey design, the results screen should make use of iconic charting elements to display the data. There are three overarching requirements for the results screen:
1- Users should see their responses to the questions compared to the aggregate audience in the survey database.
2- Users should be able to toggle or filter on different criteria to view results through different lenses - e.g.,  adjusting the industry dial to compare specifically to Manufacturing.
3- There should be space for factoids/insights integrated throughout as they view the results.

We are looking for the [topcoder] design Community to help us with planning our new "user experience" (UX).

Design Considerations/Requirements:
- Value for the person taking the survey is critical - so the results page is highly important. This is where the user (i.e., decision-maker customer or prospect) gets the most value. They also could get value from the questions if there is information about why a certain question is important or some industry information about the question. (“Did you know…”, etc.)
- Needs to feel like an easy task to complete the survey - e.g.,,, progress bar, creative ways to select responses such as slider bars to indicate sentiment, a globe to indicate where they are located, unique means for prompting them throughout the survey such as facts/tips along the way or showing how others responded as soon as they give an answer.. Again, need it to be something more engaging than survey monkey, while still preserving a business look-and-feel.
- For survey questions, we’re looking for something engaging, the questions need to be easy/fun/engaging to complete. If we can add some “graphical sizzle” (graphical elements) to enhance the experience.
- The app requires zero training for initial usability and is self-evident in navigation.
- The app persists the current state of the overall data gathering process in order to allow to pause and resume.
- A continuous accomplishment/progress/comfort is portrayed throughout data gathering process.
- An ability to explain additional context of each question, without overcrowding the interface.
- The questionnaire contains a navigation element throughout the process:
-- Jump back to previous question, skip forward to next question (where applicable).
- We want a similar experience like this survey:
- What I like: Clean; Sectioned; questions in section all one page; Short and to the point
- What I would challenge: Too basic; a little more interactive results; needs to be comparative

Considerations while taking the Survey:
- Must be consistent with the theme of “digital transformation”.
- Should invoke a sense of cutting edge, digital savviness.
- Should be a survey experience meaningfully different than they are used to.
- Should not come across as boring, linear, or “flat file”.
- It should be a survey experience that is engaging, interesting and dynamic.
- Will they want to complete it 100%? (or said another way … will our bounce rate be <10%?)
- Will they want to share it with others? Is it good enough that they would comment about it on social media?
- Will it be memorable. Will it impart a memorable ideas, fact, or take-away?
- It should be professional, not cutesy, comedic or cartoonish. This is a serious topic for companies in transformation.
- The goal is to give value and insights to the survey-taker beyond all else (e.g. not a lead gen/opt in tactic).
- Ask yourself: if you were a company in transformation taking the survey, what would be a compelling experience.
- Ask yourself: What would make this survey truly stand out in a sea of surveys from tech companies.
- Ask yourself: Does the design have any kind of central theme to drive continuity of experience.
- Will they be able to track their progress/%complete?
- Might there be any kind of pop-up’s along the way offering engaging content, comments or ideas?

Similar Tool:
- The client have some notes regarding this survey method:
-- Feedback was high level and generic; as a user I need to see links to “how to’s” or best practises to improve if I score below my peers.
-- The report output of the survey needs to reflect the user input; this was not the case for this tool.

User Flow
1. User enters the app (Welcome page) to begin the survey.
2. User answers a sequence of questions to provide key data points; based on user answers we will have some branches.
3. User pauses/resumes their questionnaire at any point throughout the application process.
4. User completes the questionnaire and is presented with a “Thank You” screen.
5. User now can see his results and how it look likes compared to his peers.

Required Features:
- Please read the user flow and target audience sections and make sure to capture what the client is looking for.

Suggested Screens:
- Please refer to Survey Content.docx for content.
1. Survey Questions:
- Please refer to pages 3 - 10 of Survey Content.docx.
- We need to cover the 18 questions in this survey.

2. Results Page:
- Here is an example of result page:
- Would like to see:
-- Section for List of questions
-- Visualization of survey answers relative to other responses/benchmarks:
---- Filter by survey question
---- Filter by Region (I.e., respondents in certain regions)
---- Filter by Size
---- Filter by Industry
-- Section for "what's next":
---- Learn more,
---- Explore more
---- Download results Visualization as PDF report
-- Could have a global view (all questions, no filters) and a “local” view (filtered down).
-- Example: Compare results with everyone. Then filter by financial services, so results/visualization changes. Then filter by North America only. Visualization changes again.
-- Design challenge: Some questions are “qualitative”. We’ve looking for creative approaches to displaying this type of result visually so the results are easy to understand.
-- Would want to download a visualization for offline view.

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance

Screen Sizes:
- Design for desktop display 1280px width and height as required.
Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp!

Supporting Documents:
- Survey Content (Survey Content.docx).
- Branding Guidelines (Color palette.pptx).

Target Audience:
- Someone that visits the site and takes the survey while there.
- Someone that is attending a live event and takes the survey on a kiosk in a booth.
- Someone sitting down with a salesperson who are then collaboratively taking the survey together with discussion (a conversation starter).

Judging Criteria:
- Ease of use of application.
- Consistency in user experience throughout the survey.
- Efficiency in screen real estate.
- Feelings of accomplishment/enjoyment when using the tool.
- The interactions fit together smoothly and are shown through a user flow/click-path.
