Challenge Summary

Welcome to GE Foundation - Brilliant Career Labs Web Application Wireframe Refinement Challenge - Part 2!

Recently we created wireframes to define the overall framework for the GE Foundation application, in this challenge, we are looking to update our existing wireframe by incorporating more details based on the provided documents.

We are looking for wireframe (axure) solutions based on requirements from our client. We’re also looking to the community to come up with interesting ideas for the workflow - we’re absolutely open to creative solutions!

At the end of this wireframe challenge, we are looking to have a complete solution for the user experience and flow of the application.

Good Luck with this challenge!

Round 1

Round 1:
- Initial Wireframe Concepts of the below scenarios for checkpoint review.
- Any additional features or screens that will help explain your idea.

Round 2

Round 2:
- Final Wireframe Concepts for all given requirements with any checkpoint feedback implemented.
- Any additional features or screens that will help explain your idea.
Background Information:
As GE relocates their Headquarters to Boston, there is an opportunity for the GE Foundation to partner with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) high school system through its Developing Skills™ Initiative. Developing Skills™ in Boston will empower all Boston Public School high school students to become globally productive citizens by providing access to learning experiences necessary for the workforce of tomorrow.

The GE Foundation will launch the GE Brilliant Career Labs in both physical and virtual form, with the goal of reaching every Boston Public High School student to clearly link the education skills of today with the careers of tomorrow. The GE Brilliant Career Labs will be the first-of-its-kind interactive experience to prepare students for the innovative industrial jobs of the future. The physical and virtual labs will be high-tech places for youth to discover, invent, design, develop and create.  The student learning experiences will also be driven by the changing global economy and the needs for a skilled workforce.  In essence – we will link a local school district to the global community. The GE Brilliant Career Labs will be high-tech innovation centers dedicated to increasing the students’ STEM awareness about expertise needed in the next generation of the workforce globally. The Labs will be focused on empowering youth through exploration and creativity, while having them see and imagine what’s coming in the future.  The Labs are designed for students to explore various career pathways and understand the skills needed for jobs in STEM fields.

This application will incorporate publicly available information with learning modules to teach soft skills and methods needed to stand out from the rest in today’s workforce.

Challenge Description:
In this wireframe challenge, we will be working on the contents within each of the sections defined in the existing wireframe.

Supporting Documents:
- Google drive link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9qFIpKOvgbmSlFRTXQ5aVZjNnM&usp=sharing
- Google drive contains:
-- Module 1 - Understanding Yourself.doc
-- Module 2 - Understanding Others.doc

Overview of the tasks in this challenge:
There is framing/instructional language for "Mr. X" throughout the Module Content files and then points, badges, etc. explained/ outlined for tasks.

The client would like to focus on the following for this wireframe challenge:
- Look to Incorporate O*Net assessment into assessment piece (the winner did not include)
- Revamp of new content of essential skills “Activity” and work more towards gamification.
- And we would like to have more in-depth on career explorations by
- - Tie-in to results of O*Net Assessment
- - Tie-in to popular in local area
- - Search by skills
- - Tie-in "next steps" i.e higher ed, internships, training, HS courses, etc
- - More emphasis on incorporating Khan Academy training/videos/etc, and other sources of content and information.
- - The physical Brilliant Career Lab (classroom setting) will provide students with “hands-on” interactive activities that tie to career explorations. The Khan Academy activities and videos are meant to provide a virtual replication of that physical experience within this app. Any other ideas or concepts that you have to reproduce a “classroom experience” would be interesting to see. Just make sure it doesn’t change the entire flow or intent of the application. We are just building upon the current wireframes, NOT redoing them.

A. Assessment Section:
- We need to incorporate O*Net assessment into assessment piece.
- The Assessment section should be reworked to include the questions from O*Net available here: http://www.mynextmove.org/explore/ip
- There is only 1 “module” or set of questions needed for the Assessment module (the O*Net questions). The other 5 modules can be removed.
- We are also open to other ideas on how to lay out the information better now that there is only one module. Can you make the page more interactive? Let the user jump into the questions faster? We are open to your ideas.

B. Essential Skills Section:
- We have provided real content for the modules 1 and 2.
- Please use contents in your wireframes
- We would like you to focus more on the gamification aspects, think on how this can be done and expanded upon what is already there.
- What is the best way to integrate the points and badges into the Essential Skills section?
- How does Mr. X get integrated into the section and the site in general? We are open to your ideas. Use the content in the Module documents to guide your decisions on how Mr. X should be integrated and where in the process.
- - The client views Mr. X as a sort of virtual instructor/guide to students
- Note: There will be a total of 10 Modules in the finish site. Your updates/ layouts to reflect and include 10 Modules (the current wireframes currently show 9)

Module 1: Understanding Yourself

- Think on how this activity can be shown.

- Please remove the text shown in the wireframe and use the introduction shown in the document, think on how these can be shown in the wireframe.
- Show the 2 Mini-Lessons and the 3 Activities within this module as shown in the doc; pages 2 to 8

Activities & Mini-Lessons:

C. Career Explorations Section:
(Career Path should be updated to Career Explorations). We are really just looking for refinements and updates to this section to include more tools and relevant information for the user.

The goal is to the allow the user to search for and explore careers that they are interested in, but also have the app show them careers that match their skills and how they performed on the O*Net Assessment from the Assessment section. Areas we would like you to refine and explore for the Career Explorations Section are:
- Include the results of O*Net Assessment from the Assessment section.
-- Show the user careers that match their results
-- Give the user the ability to search and refine results based on their results
- Allow the user to search/ refine careers based on skills or by occupation name
- Show careers that are popular in the user’s local area
-- Allow the user to search and filter by this criteria (location)
- Show "next steps" (career detail pages)
-- higher education, internships, training, HS courses, etc
- More emphasis on incorporating Khan Academy training/videos/etc (career detail pages)
-- Khan Academy offers instructional videos and exercises in a wide variety of subject areas, from math and science to entrepreneurship and college admissions.
- Show additional sources/ content (career detail pages)
