Background Information:
As GE relocates their Headquarters to Boston, there is an opportunity for the GE Foundation to partner with the Boston Public Schools (BPS) high school system through its Developing Skills™ Initiative. Developing Skills™ in Boston will empower all Boston Public School high school students to become globally productive citizens by providing access to learning experiences necessary for the workforce of tomorrow.

The GE Foundation will launch the GE Brilliant Career Labs in both physical and virtual form, with the goal of reaching every Boston Public High School student to clearly link the education skills of today with the careers of tomorrow. The GE Brilliant Career Labs will be the first-of-its-kind interactive experience to prepare students for the innovative industrial jobs of the future. The physical and virtual labs will be high-tech places for youth to discover, invent, design, develop and create.  The student learning experiences will also be driven by the changing global economy and the needs for a skilled workforce.  In essence – we will link a local school district to the global community. The GE Brilliant Career Labs will be high-tech innovation centers dedicated to increasing the students’ STEM awareness about expertise needed in the next generation of the workforce globally. The Labs will be focused on empowering youth through exploration and creativity, while having them see and imagine what’s coming in the future.  The Labs are designed for students to explore various career path ways and understand the skills needed for jobs in STEM fields.

This application will incorporate publicly available information with learning modules to teach soft skills and methods needed to stand out from the rest in today’s workforce.

Screen Sizes:
Desktop Resolution: Design for 1280px width and height as required.
- Make sure you create graphic in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp!
- Use the existing designs as your guide for screen sizes

Branding Guidelines:
- Use the existing designs as your MAIN source of design and branding input. Your designs should MATCH the current designs.

Design Goals:
- Take the existing designs and expand upon them
- Incorporate the questions and answering mechanism from the content documents
- Match and follow the existing designs and layouts

Required Content:
- We are just focused on designing “templates” for the kind of questions and input styles/ mechanics that will be used most often.
- This is only a small sample, so make sure that your design layouts become flexible and able to handle different questions BUT the underlying structure still remains the same
- We are focusing on 6 question types:
01 Word Selection/ Multi-Selection
02 Fill in the Blank
03 Ranking/ Sorting
04 Flashcards
05 Slider/ Ratings/ Levels
06 True False/ Selection

App Module 1 - Activity 1: Words That Describe Me
- Word Selection/ Multi-Selection Question
- This section is largely complete in the existing designs
- Need to include the “Mr. X” Framing Instructional Language” at the start of the Activity 1 question. This can be a minimal design with maybe just the profile pic of Mr. X in a circle with the text next to it
- Need to make a “Speech bubble” next to all of the Mr. X text throughout the entire app

App Module 1 - Activity 2: A Portrait of Yourself
- Fill in the Blank Question
- Follow content and existing design structure/ template for the questions

App Module 1 - Activity 3: Setting Priorities About Values
- Ranking/ Sorting Question
- Maybe an interactive click and drag sorting functionality
- Reorganize/ rank the words based on the user’s values
- Will need to add ? icons or something that open tooltips that explain the description text for each word (look at App Module 2 - Activity 2: Emotional Intelligence Growth Plan for an example)

App Module 1 - Activity 4: Basic Human Needs
- Flashcards Question
- Front of card shows description/ need
- Back of card shows the question with space to type a short answer by the user
- Should have some kind of button, arrow, indication that the user needs to “flip” the card over to complete that card.
- Can show all 6 “cards” at once if possible, but we are open to your ideas.

App Module 1 - Activity 5: Responding to Change
- Slider/ Ratings/ Levels Question
- User slides an indicator to show what side that relate to most, for example; bad vs. good
- Easy and quick interaction
- Will need to add ? icons or something that open tooltips that explain the description text for each word (look at App Module 2 - Activity 3: Personality Preferences Assessment for an example)

App Module 2 - Mini Lesson 1
- The mini lessons are unique pieces of content, different than the questions
- Design the best user experience for how to display the content in the document WITHIN the current question/ answer layout/ structure.

App Module 3 - Activity 1: Effective Job Search Strategies
- True False/ Selection Question

App Module 3 - Activity 1 Continued: Effective Job Search Strategies
- True False/ Selection Question
- Should follow same layout/ input method as App Module 3 - Activity 1: Effective Job Search Strategies
- Break up the questions into the 4 sections shown in the content document: 1 Networking, 2 Research and Contact Target Employers, etc.

App Module 3 - Activity 6: Sample Resumes
- This is a new question input style
- We are open to your ideas and concepts
- The goal is to make sure the user knows what a good resume looks like and that all of the required information is included
