Challenge Summary

Welcome to Cortland Data Visualization Design Refinement Challenge. Recently we ran a design concepts challenge for Cortland Partners which involved designing a three-dimensional heat-map style data visualization representing trends in apartment rental history of specific apartment units across their portfolio of properties. In this challenge, we are looking to continue refining and updating this concept! We are looking for finished results that will truly help us understand the overall user experience.

Excited to see your updated designs for this challenge. Good Luck!

Challenge Details
This challenge is focused on refining the design and user experience created in the previous challenge by updating the existing map/fidelity and truly going with more of the 3D/Google Earth initial view and allowing the user to see simple information that they can filter and quickly click into. We are also looking to update the overall application design based on the provided branding. At the end of this challenge we want a completed user story/click path that makes sense and allows anyone to understand how to use this application.

Challenge Assets:
Please find all files required for the challenge here:

Required Screen Updates:
We are looking for the following screens, updates and "completed" overall user experience.

Design Updates:
A. Google Earth Style Maps View:
- Please update existing maps/experience to be more inline with a Google Earth type experience.
- The user should be able to click/choose between satellite view and vector/map view
- Research the options (it will help you render the possibilities)
- What is the best way to view the maps as 3D visualization?
- - - Google Earth
- - - https://d3js.org/
- - - http://cesiumjs.org/
- - - http://kartograph.org/
- - - https://www.jasondavies.com/maps/zoom/
- - - http://bl.ocks.org/mbostock/2206590
- - - https://www.mapbox.com/satellite/

Do not overthink this! We are looking for a better experience (utilizing existing options!)

B. Branding Update:
- We are providing the Cortland Partners branding guidelines, please update your design to incorporate the colors/guidance
- Use the provided logo in your designs.

C. Screen Updates:
01 Home Dashboard
User Story
- When the user first arrives on this screen they will not see the colored dots/circles. This is something they might filter on.
- What the user will see is initial data/stats on the provided Communities
- The user will be able to zoom or click into a property which will take them to the next screen

Updates

- Update the branding and make sure all the graphics, interactions and user experience make sense and are consistent from screen to screen
- Overall map experience/design
- Filter: Think about this experience. Is it smooth? Is it easy to user/also interact with the map?
- We do not like the colored circles/design - when using the filter what is the best way to show this information? Is there a better way to represent this?

02 Community Level
User Story
- When a user clicks on a Community they will be taken to this view.
- The user is able to switch between Satellite and vector views
- The user is able to quickly tap and see Community Demographic information
- The user is able to quickly tap Overview and see information about the Community
- In Satellite view the user is able to see gradients of color/doppler radar type view and understanding of the communities Active Lease Proforma. This allows the user to continue clicking into specific apartments in the community to see more refined information
- See provided drone video and property images. Please provide a way to see the alternative views. This is content that would be provided by the customer (and not an API service)
- In Vector/3D view, the user is able to see the different buildings, apartments and is able to filter the information as needed.

Updates
- Update the branding and make sure all the graphics, interactions and user experience make sense and are consistent from screen to screen
- Image 02 3: In the right side, remove 3 Floors, just the total number of buildings
- Image 02 3: Clicking on 1219.78 (Average Active Lease Proforma) should reveal to show a table view/report of the leases in place, this need to have the following details “
- Image 02 3: Unit number, rent amount, lease begin/end date, Unit type, Number of bed/bath, Sqft., etc).
- Image 02 3: Clicking on “20 Available” should highlight the 20 available units on the map. We are looking to have some interactions on these statistics - think on how this can be shown in the design.
- Image 02 3: It would be useful to provide color coding on how long something has been vacant (available) and how can this be shown?
- Image 02 3: For the “Average Active Lease Proforma” instead of a donut, we would like to have a slider which helps to show (visually see on the left) what the proforma is.
- Image 02 3: Please remove “Average Renters Age” area as this is already in “Demographic Info” below.
- Image 02 3: Service Requests: How do we show the breakup of number of service requests per property?
- Image 02 3: Demographic Info: We would like this collapsed section when expanded to show the demographic info as well as Service requests.
- Image 02 3: All images - remove the weird color bar/status bar with the service requests on top of the buildings.

04 Community Level Explore:
Updates
- Update the branding and make sure all the graphics, interactions and user experience make sense and are consistent from screen to screen
- When on the Satellite view we would prefer more of a heatmap Doppler Radar view. (Very important to try and capture this aspect - ask questions if you have any doubt about this!)
- When on the Vector/3D view we would like the current view/per apartment view.
- All images - remove the weird color bar/status bar with the service requests on top of the buildings.

05 Building Level:
Updates
- Update the branding and make sure all the graphics, interactions and user experience make sense and are consistent from screen to screen
- Please remove “Average Renters Age” area
- The row where you had mentioned Floor Plan information, it would make sense to add the floor plan info here (in relation to the floor plan name) (Ex: Floor plan type, etc.)
- Remove "Not Available" - doesn't make sense
- Instead of Date Available, please have it as “Lease End Date”
- NTV (underneath yes/no label)
- Services Request (include the slider here similar to the community overview)
- Service Request: click onto the service requests to see the type and date

Bottom Collapsed Tab
- Looking forward to your thoughts on what details would be more relevant at this level (Ex: Service Requests etc.)
- Important: At each zoom level we want to capture what is being shown within this tab. Realize it should change based on the zoom level/details.

06 Unit Level:
Updates
- Update the branding and make sure all the graphics, interactions and user experience make sense and are consistent from screen to screen
- Change the label “Performa History” to “Rent History”
- Please remove “Average Renters Age” area
- See provided drone video and property images. Please provide a way to see the alternative views. This is content that would be provided by the customer (and not an API service)
- How should this be presented/used on this page?

Target Audience:
- Cortland Employee's
