Challenge Summary

Welcome to the Engage Together® -  Human trafficking Dashboard Visualization Challenge, brought to you by Deloitte Pixel™!

In this challenge, we are looking for topcoder community’s help in designing an interactive dashboard visualization that will allows users to create visual stories / reports of how organisation around the country is fighting human trafficking, we are looking for the best way to visualize the source data we have!

BONUS: We are excited/ want to see screens that can help turn the dashboards viz. reports and the findings/insights on those dashboards into printable friendly reports. We will be paying an additional Bonus of $200 for a submission that provides creative solutions around this problem (note: this is at clients discretion).

At the end of this challenge, we would like to have an interactive dashboard visualization that satisfies all the requirements mentioned below.

Round 1

Submit your initial designs for Checkpoint Feedback.

- You must upload your submission to InvisionApp so we can provide direct feedback on your designs.
- Please request an InvisionApp link from the Copilot through the challenge forum.

But please feel free to provide any additional screens necessary to explain your concept.
Notes.jpg: Please note any comments about your design for the Client

Round 2

Your Final designs for all required screens, with all Checkpoint Feedback implemented.

You must upload your submission to InvisionApp, for the final submission
- You can reuse the prototype that you shared for checkpoint

But please feel free to provide any additional screens necessary to explain your concept.
Notes.jpg: Please note any comments about your design for the Client

We know what key items the client would like to see and we know how the source data will look like - now we are looking for the best way of visualizing the data and to build compelling reports and dashboards.

Design Requirements:
- We are looking for modern designs
- Design for desktop: Data discovery need to be designed for desktop but keep in mind that the reports / visualizations / geo heat maps generated also need to work well in print as explain below.
- This is a responsive HTML5 web App, so have your designs of size desktop Size: 1280px width and height as required.
- Branding – the client likes their current colors and logo (http://engagetogether.com/), but we are flexible on other areas of the design and open to suggestions for the designers.

IMPORTANT! Visualization Expectations:
We have shared a presentation with our expectations on how we envision this report..this should help you get started with your designs..we have listed some of the important points to keep in mind while designing your dashboard visualizations (you will find these in provided presentation as well).
- Never have too much information on your dashboard instead try to make your dashboards compelling by making the visualization interactive and enable users to walk through the different insights.
- Allow users to create visual stories / reports.
- Provide ability to interactive and ad hoc analysis of the data.
- Use color, visual comparison and drill-down charts to highlight comparison.
- Provide visual tool-tips that can highlight certain key KPI’s and statistics.

Data Relationships:
(Please see page 3, 4 and 5 in the PDF to learn more about the data)
Relationship between data is very important so as to come up with the best / compelling dashboard visualizations and in particular knowing the relationship will help your come up with ideas for different reports that need to be created and how a user can drill-down through the data to visual stories / reports. The source for these visualization is the data received from organizations who will be filling out couple of surveys!

Required Dashboard / Reports:
- Based on the details given below, come up with dashboards that satisfies all the expectations.
- Think how a user need to interact with data...what is required / necessary to drill-down the data - filters, search, etc - how these need to put up?
- What they need to see initially in the dashboards below?
- How will they start to play with the data, do we need a some sort of interactive help to explain how best they can utilize the dashboards?
- We are open to your thoughts on how the overall page need to looks like but keep in mind that being able to export the findings is a key goal...we want to be able to gift the community with a printed/digital report that can visualize the data (showing strengths and gaps) and include a resource manual of all organizations whose data is included in the visualization.
- Please see client’s expectations above, it is important to pay attention to the details mentioned in the provided PDF.

01 First dashboard:
- Client like to call it “wow reports”, these are targeted for the organizations and community themselves after they fill out an initial survey, this should show them what other organization in that geographic are doing.
- We are looking for some type of multi-dimensional geo heat map.
- Allow the users to navigate regions and areas with ease
- Provide capabilities to search and filter through the data
- The target here would be to show organizations themselves in the region they perform services in, and what they and other organizations are is doing or not doing to fight human trafficking in this area.
- Data for this dashboard is from the initial 1st survey, we have these data hierarchy :
- - - Organization
- - - Country & State
- - - County
- - - Programmatic Scope
- - - Sub-Programmatic Scope
- - - Demographic Scope

Note this data from an organization will not have the relationship between the above data hierarchy (please see page 3 in the PDF)

For example:
“Organization ABC, server Area 1,2,3, providing program A & B, for Children and male and female”
“Organization XXX, server Area 3,4,7, providing program A , for male and female of all ages”

Other examples of interesting insight one should be able to get from these visualizations:
- In region A, there are 342 organization helping to shelter children
- 34 out of 78 counties in Region A provide short term shelter, but only 12 out of 78 counties provide long term shelter.

Above is just an example of one of the insight, but we are looking your dashboard to allow for creating visual stories / reports.

KPIs:
The essential requirements include:
- - - True data visualization that is visually dynamic and easy to understand by a community audience;
- - - Ability to toggle between simple visualizations of demographic scope KPIs (perhaps a bar chart that shows how many programs represented serve each specific demographic), programmatic scope KPIs (perhaps a pie chart akin to the Engage together’s 5 program category and sub-category areas that shows the density through color and number of efforts present in each subcategory(please see slide )), and geographic scope KPIs (perhaps a state map with similar density color settings and number of efforts)
- - - Ability to then visualize layered/complex data - so that we are able to “see” that X city has 5 temporary shelters but only one for men and none for foreign nationals
- - - Ability to visualize each of the above at the meta-level and then dive deeper into the data that is aggregated for that particular visualization (i.e. being able to see that there is a density of efforts in X geographic region or Y programmatic category or Z demographic...and being able to click or zoom in to unearth those details...such as Organization Name and website)
- - - And lastly, the ability to red flag/highlight potential gaps in the overall effort - for programmatic, demographic, and geographic scope
- - - Lastly - if at all possible - ability to include data that is not auto-generated by the real-time survey takers (e.g. if we knew that 5 groups were not going to be in attendance, we could send the survey to them in advance of the meeting and include their data with those submitting it that night)

02 Second Dashboard:
- The second set of dashboards, will be generated after each of the organizations provide even more detailed information on who they serve in each of the geographical areas reported in the survey 1.
- Data for this dashboard is from the second survey where the organization gets the opportunity to map each of the geographic areas to the exact demographic and programmatic scope.
- These dashboard are targeted towards state and area representatives.
- We have the mapping of the data between geographic scope provided in survey 1 and demographic scope (please see page 5 in PDF):
- - - Organization
- - - Country & State
- - - County
- - - Programmatic Scope
- - - Sub-Programmatic Scope
- - - Demographic Scope

For Example:
“Organization ABC, for Area 1, they provide program A & B, for Children not for Adults and only for women”
“Organization ABC, for Area 2 & 3, they provide program A & B, for Children and Adults but for both men and woman”

Example of Insight one should be able to get from these visualizations:
- In state A, there are 342 organization helping to shelter children
- Out of the 342 organization helping to shelter children long term only cover 1/3 of the state and only 23 serve female foreign citizens with no geographic coverage in the north east region. (2/3 is currently unserved when it comes to long term shelter for US and foreign children)
- In county 1, there are 12 different organization helping to serve children but only 1 that helps adults.

Above is just an example of one of the insight, but we are looking your dashboard to allow for creating visual stories / reports. Show us how these need to be done!

KPIs:
In addition to being able to visualize (and print for digital or hard copy reports) all the items from the first dashboard...we can now visualize true data that is complex/mulit-layered (such as the examples already given above)...additional reports/visualizations/deliverables would include:
- State-wide heat map of density of efforts by programmatic/demographic scope
- Highlights of gaps that appear to exist
- Insight statements (or at least the data to then compile insights in a narrative form for an assessment section in the final state report)
- Service matrix outline - that can be filled in (auto-populated) with organizations along the entire continuum of programmatic scope for a certain region
- Then the ability to create a resource manual of all organizations/efforts whose data is included in the report in two forms:
- - - Short form list of agencies by programmatic, geographic, demographic scope
- - - A long form report that would potentially include all structured and unstructured data submitted in the surveys by the organizations (we would need the ability to include - or not include - certain types of data and even certain organizations)

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance
- Focus on the user experience! Focus on the navigation experience. Keeping consistent visual elements.
