Challenge Summary

Welcome to the CIL CMAP Infographics Design Challenge. In this infographic challenge, we are looking for your help to design couple of visually interesting infographics about the Broad Institute Connectivity Map 1 contest to include it in our presentations. We just completed one of the infographic for this project, for this challenge - you will need to following the design style from the provided infographic.

These Infographics should easily and creatively show a functional, real-world example of crowdsourcing through the CMAP Algorithm challenge. The infographics will be part of our presentations and possibly our website.

We are really excited to see your designs for this challenge!

Round 1

We would like to review your checkpoint design for the below infographics:
- Infographic 1
- Infographic 2

Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client

Round 2

Your final infographic designs for the all the mentioned info
Any updates and refinements from the Checkpoint review

Notes.jpg: Any comments about your design for the Client

CMAP is a collection of genome-wide transcriptional expression data from cultured human cells treated with bioactive, small molecules and simple pattern-matching algorithms. When these elements are brought together, the results enable the discovery of functional connections between drugs, genes and diseases through the transitory feature of common gene-expression changes. For the algorithm contest, the goal was to maximize the accuracy of the inferred gene expression values, while minimizing the number of the measured gene expressions.

IMPORTANT - Design considerations!!
- These infographic will be used in social media, websites, etc!
- Looking for a infographic that is a combination of text and graphical representation.
- The graphics should convince or compel viewers to understand the purpose of this challenge.
- Infographic Size: We will be using these infographics in presentation and social media / websites, etc..so preferably a landscape view for the slides (1024 x 768) and a portrait view of the infographic to be used in social media / websites.
- Make sure the graphics you create are scalable vectors, so we can resize it to any resolutions as required.
- There are no specific branding guidelines, please be creative and make it visually engaging.

Required Infographics:
A. Infographic 1:

- We need an infographic that shows the solver’s motivations for participating in the contests. - Please include rank and TC handle.
- You can find the table showing these in slide 2

B. Infographic 2:
- Please use the title and subtitle as shown below
- Title: Improved Inference Means Improved Biological Discovery
- Subtitle: How CMAP Uses the Winning Algorithms
- For this infographic, we need to show how CMAP currently uses the winning algorithms.
- The winning algorithms for CMAP are being used to infer the values of 11K gene expressions based on 970 gene expressions. The Broad Institute is able to measure in a very fast and cost effective way in the lab. It is a great step to measure gene expressions on massive scale. This will be very convenient for future research applications.

Additionally, we need to show how the algorithms performed and what happens when you combine the solutions - this is shown as a graph in slide 4).
- We want it to be clear that when you combine the solutions, the score goes up as shown in slide 5

Target Audience:
- The CIL team and our partners will be the primary users.
- The audience is people who may not know a lot about crowdsourcing and want to see an actual example.

Judging Criteria:
- How well you represent / convey information in your infographic design.
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design.
- How well it will translate across social media, websites.
- Simplicity of design / strong, clear design concept.

Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
All requested contest requirements/screens as JPG or PNG files at 300dpi.

Source Files
All original source files for the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Illustrator and saved as layered Ai file OR in Adobe Photoshop as a layered PSD file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback and instructions.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.
