Challenge Summary

Welcome to the CMAP2 Infographic Design Challenge. In this challenge, we are looking to create and use an infographic to show a real-world example of a successful crowdsourcing contest to people who may or may not have any experience in genomics or crowdsourcing. We will be including the infographic in our presentations, and on our website and social media page.

Client of this challenge  ran an algorithm challenge through topcoder and in this challenge we are looking for Infographics to easily and creatively show a functional, real-world example of crowdsourcing. The infographics will be part of our presentations and possibly our website and also we will be printing it as a large poster.

We are really excited to see your designs for this challenge!

Round 1

We would like to review your initial infographic designs for checkpoint

The Purpose of this challenge is to come up with an infographic design

About CMAP 2:
The Crowd Innovation Lab at Harvard University is looking for a visually interesting and easy to read infographic to showcase the results of our recent crowdsourcing contest, CMAP2. This is part 2 of a contest we have done in collaboration with the Broad Institute at MIT.

CMAP is a collection of genome-wide transcriptional expression data from cultured human cells treated with bioactive, small molecules and simple pattern-matching algorithms. When these elements are brought together, the results enable the discovery of functional connections between drugs, genes and diseases through the transitory feature of common gene-expression changes. In the second contest of the CMAP series, we wanted to maximize the speed and accuracy of query searches. Through these searches, we seek to discover relationships between drugs, diseases, and genes and to generate new scientific hypotheses that point the way to therapeutic solutions. An example use case is as follows: A researcher discovers a set of genes that are collectively dysregulated in a certain disease. She then queries CMap with this gene set and discovers a drug that inversely matches her query and therefore hypothesizes that the drug may be of therapeutic relevance for the disease.

- Also we have provided a pdf version of the graph in the powerpoint (with better clarity)
