Welcome to IBM - Chatbot App Design Concepts Challenge, part of the Topcoder Cognitive Community Challenge Series. This is a simple design challenge, we are looking for you help to come with an exciting look and feel for the new chatbot application.

You are designing a simple chatbot application, all it really has to do is be a simple chat window.  When it starts out, you enter your name and email address, hit go, then it's a simple hangouts-style chat with the bot.

We are really excited to see your designs for this application!

Round 1

Submit your initial designs for Checkpoint Feedback

You must upload your submission to MarvelApp so we can provide direct feedback on your designs.
Feel free to add any other additional screens which are necessary to explain your concept.

Round 2

Your Final designs for all the required designs with all Checkpoint Feedback implemented.

You must upload your submission to MarvelApp, for the final submission - you can reuse the prototype that you shared for checkpoint

Purpose of this app will be a simple Chatbot for IBM. It's going to be an example chatbot that we can use as the basis for a product offering to future clients.

As part of this challenge, you are able to get a free 90 day trial of IBM Bluemix to view and research their services. Even if you're not a developer, it's a good idea to register and look around, as the services offered on bluemix will be important in following challenges. Please find that information in the forum.

Application Flow:
- Users opens the app, enters their name and email address, hits go!
- Screen shows chat window where user could chat with the bot.
- Both user and chatbot will have a avatar
- By default, users have a generic avatar but they will be able to customize it by uploading a custom thumbnail image.

Design Consideration:
- Clean and streamlined design and user flow
- Application should provide an intuitive process
- Looking for a fresh user-experience!
- Please make sure to follow IBM branding guidelines
- This is going to be developed as a Responsive Application, in this initial challenge we are looking to focus on the desktop views.
- Screen Size: 1366px width and height as required (Desktop).

Suggested Screens:
01 Welcome Page / Demo Access Page:
- This is the initial screen that a user sees while accessing this app framework
- User will enter their name and email address
- Do you think we should provide option to change their avatar in this initial page, looking forward to your thoughts
- On entering the information, they submit to move to the next screen!

02 Chatbot Screens:
- This will be a chat screen where user chats with the chatbot.
- Note: this will be a simple chat window / user will be able to ask questions and we will be leveraging IBM watson to answer questions...example: user could order pizza using this chatbot.
- Provide options to customize the avatar of the user.
- We are open to ideas / thoughts on how to make this chatbot interesting - try to walk through your screens with some example like the above (but please make sure to keep it simple).

03 Customizing User Profile:
- Provide a way for the user to customize the avatar and their profile!
- What else do you think would be helpful here?

Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
- Overall idea and execution of concepts
- How well does your design align with the objectives of the challenge
- Execution and thoughtfulness put into the solving the problem
- Overall design and user experience
- Cleanliness of screen design and user flow

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as a layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file or Sketch!

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase, you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
