Challenge Summary

Welcome to the "IBM Cognitive - Weather Sales Performance Analytics Dashboard Design Challenge". The goal of this challenge is to plan and design a dashboard that leverages cognitive thinking and technology to help business users understand the overall effect of weather on sales for different business units and materials. We want users to be able to open their analytics dashboard and quickly get contextual information and be able to take action based on the information provided.

We are looking for a dashboard design concepts that are intuitive, informative and easy to understand using cognitive technology and design techniques.

Looking forward to seeing your solutions!

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

Challenge Description
For this challenge we recommend you review the provided wireframes, do your research into cognitive, sign-up for Bluemix and look to create your own design concepts for the weather dashboard. We are looking for the best interactive and intuitive dashboard for monitoring and predicting risk associated with weather changes that leveraging the use of cognitive computing. We want you to think about how to bring this futuristic process into the dashboard to help business users handle their day-to-day tasks.

The key feature of this dashboard is how weather data affects the provided business data. We want to be able to provide any business data (retail, food, beverage, etc.) and to see how the weather dashboard helps the user understand its effects on their business.

The key to this challenge is focusing on cognitive technology and thinking, planning, and designing for it. This should be a fun challenge to explore and learn about new technology and how to design UI/UX for cognitive.

Challenge Goals
We are looking for Responsive (Desktop and Mobile) dashboard designs that leverage cognitive technology

Design Consideration
Important: We are looking for interactive graphical user interface solutions using cognitive technology! One of the key items we want to visualize is how a user will interact with AI.
- Keep the experience visual and interactive
- This application will consolidate data from Weather Company Data for IBM® Bluemix® which is a specialized service designed to uncover and quantify the precise relationship between the weather and business performance
- We need the navigation to quickly draw our business users attention to areas that need additional focus.
- Set clear visual clues that will be used throughout the navigation experience.

Cognitive Features
Below are some cognitive features you can consider for your dashboard. Take your time to research about it and remember to not think what feature will work and which is not, BUT think HOW to bring this human interaction in this dashboard.
- Weather Data: console.ng.bluemix.net/docs/services/Weather/index.html
- Retrieve and Rank: console.ng.bluemix.net/catalog/services/retrieve-and-rank?taxonomyNavigation=watson
- Example of Others Cognitive Products: www.ibm.com/watson/products.html

Wireframe Details
- Download wireframes here
- We are providing the top 3 wireframes from the previous challenge. Each wireframe has unique solutions and items that you should analyze and look to include in your design.
- DO NOT COPY or color the wireframes directly - use them to insprire your design process.

Wireframe: #238263
- We really love the first time user experience process/AI interactions
- Dashboard is capturing alerts/messaging that matters to the user (this could be more interactive with the AI)
- Great use of help/interactions (but should be less helpdesk and more chat like)
- Impacts are very clear/shown on the map and great cognitive recommendations from AI.
- Captures important interactions and scenarios

Wireframe: #238682
- Great job capturing forecast scenarios "Play" features
- Great job on the sales optimization features
- Chatbot! Think of how to integrate the chat bot for this user... don't make it just a robot "chat" - this is where the experience should be more human.
- Great Alerts/messaging - but how might this be more of a chat or interactive experience? The user see's the recommended action (or actions?)
- Map details features - analyze how useful this is /where to simplify for your concept
- A lot of great detail

Wireframe: #238598
- Very impactful weather prediction features - this really helps bring cognitive to the user, details and action plans. What if you could clarify or run scenarios within a predication?
- Great data visualization on sales performance
- Very strong mobile approach - showcasing what matters to the user (might need that interactive/bot feature here)

Screens and Features
01. Home - First Time User (Desktop and Mobile)
- This is where the user personalizes or creates their dashboard for the first time.
- User will provide any useful data to start the experience. They will "inform" the application of what they want to do and the data they are uploading.
- User can choose what suggestions on sales performance he/she want to extract

02. Home (Desktop and Mobile)
- This is where user will interact with their sales data
- Show a map with alert spot to grab user attention to the area where action needed to do (this does not need to fill the entire page)
- When a user clicks on an alert spot, a user will see sales trends and recommendation from cognitive technology. Which interaction is the best: user need to click on alert spot or show the suggestion on the map?
- User will see trends regarding to the sales performance: YOY, total sales, and weather sales impact.
- Show sales prediction based on weather forecast (in daily, monthly, and yearly).

03. Data (Destop and Mobile)
- This is where user can add or change the sales data.
- What might other services make sense?

04. Alerts and Messaging (Desktop and Mobile)
- Think about the messaging

05. Analytics (Desktop and Mobile)
- When user click on data on dashboard, it will bring user to this feature.
- This feature will show scenarios generated by cognitive technology based on the sales data provided by user.
- Show us an idea if user want to request prediction on specific region, on specific weather condition, and the impact on the sales. What happen if user decide to do the this recommendation and that recommendation?
- Show us the weather impact result.

06. Chatbot (Desktop and Mobile)
- A simple chatbot features where the user can communicate with an Intelligent Agent.
- Think how Siri, Alexa, Watson, Cortana, etc do this on chatbot (or even more human?)
- Show possible interaction between user and chatbot.

Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance
- Keeping consistent visual elements - from signal, to understanding, to action planning.

BlueMix
As part of the Cognitive Community series of challenges we would like you to register for the Topcoder Cognitive Community and for IBM Bluemix. While you might not need IBM Bluemix long term it is still great research into learning about the Bluemix platform and what is going on with IBM Watson and cognitive. Plus, those who sign up for both the Cognitive Community and the Bluemix free trial will be entered to win $200 — just for signing up! (Click here for rules and regulations.)

Please make sure to register for both!
