Welcome to Horizons - Cloud Control Panel Design Concepts Challenge. In this challenge, we are looking for you to provide design concepts for redesigning our Cloud Control Panel, a web portal that helps our customers in managing cloud servers and also provide them with capabilities that helps them monitor and view reports about their overall cloud environment.  

For this first design concepts challenge, we are looking to focus on a new and modern design direction for this application and to create an effective dashboard design. This challenge is focused on new design concepts with the follow-up challenges will be about refining the experience.

The portal will be used by both internal and customer support, management, and executive personnel. The portal brings together a range of server management options including private and public environments.

Users of this portal will have access to high level information as well as day-to-day management of a system as needed. Managers and executives will see the status of the environment, trending, capacity, and business planning information.

Design Problem
We are looking to modernize our Cloud Control Panel and explore different design and interaction concepts. We want to see new approaches to the experience of managing virtual servers.

For this challenge - as part of your checkpoint submission, you must upload your submission to Marvelapp so we can provide direct feedback on your designs.

Design Consideration:
- Clean and streamlined design and user flow!
- Looking for a fresh user-experience.
- This is going to be developed as a Web Application, so have your designs of width 1366px and height as required.
- We have provided existing screenshots for your reference to help get started, please do not copy as we are looking for new concepts and ideas (Please request access to this in forums)
- Show us how things could be designed and function. Maybe it is one screen (dashboard) with overlays and flyout windows. Maybe it is multiple screens and panels for different kinds of functionality and tasks.
- We are open and looking for your ideas and solutions.

Required Screens/ Functionality
00 Login:
- User will be required to login to access this web application
- Enter user name, password, passcode (optional)
- Provide options for the user to reset the password

01 Landing Page:
- We are open to a variety of styles for the landing page, this might be the dashboard, or some other initial screen.
- Be creative with various ideas for what could be best here.
- This should have a strong aesthetic quality that highlights the portal’s all-encompassing design with a modern look and feel.

02 Dashboard:
- Dashboard will need to show the overview of environment
- Shows key metrics, status, and demographics of the systems
- Click through to more detailed information depending on what they select
- Think through the user experience.

03 Server Details:
- Detailed information about the system and access to various administrative elements
- Different sections for various actions such as re-configure, shutdown, remove, backups, network, firewall rules impacting system, et

04 Server Provisioning (Create New Server):
- Screen used to build new systems across a wide range of platforms and environments
- Build a system including private, public, and non-cloud environments
- Select various configuration options, software, or previous blueprints
- Show the status of server as being built.

05 Network:
- Screen focused on network elements such as firewall rules, NAT assignments, and creation of new network rules
- View, edit, add, delete firewall rules
- User should be able to assign NAT addresses

06 Reporting:
- Screen used to show various reports for the systems
- Select date ranges to create reports for server inventory, usage, utilization, billing and other elements

Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
- Overall idea and execution of concepts
- How well does your design align with the objectives of the challenge
- Execution and thoughtfulness put into the solving the problem
- Overall design and user experience
- Cleanliness of screen design and user flow

Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as a layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file or Sketch!

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase, you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.
