Challenge Summary
Welcome to the RRT - Responsive Application Design Refinement Challenge! We recently completed the design challenge to create the initial design concepts for our internal “Regulatory Reference Tool” application. In this design challenge, we are looking for you continue to improve and update the RRT user experience so we can prep it for development.
In this challenge we will be providing you with the previous winning design and we now need you to continue improving, updating and refining the experience based on the requested updates.
We are looking forward to seeing your design refinements!
Round 1

This challenge is focused on continuing to create a great user experience for the RRT application and refining it based on our requested updates.
RRT is an internal, searchable regulatory reference tool and library of forms that allows our advisors and compliance employees quick access to regulatory materials and educational tools.
- Download and explore the provided wireframes (notes are included)
- Overviews of the major laws and regulations applicable to advisers
- Searchable database and library of forms
Focus on
- Employee user experience
- The ability to find what you are looking for quickly
- Overall Navigation of the app (Desktop, Tablet and Mobile)
- Graphic and visual refinements, consistency from screen to screen
- Typography and visual hierarchy
Design Considerations
- This is a Responsive web application!

- Make sure you create your graphic's in 'shape' format, so when we resize graphics will still look sharp!
Documentation:
See Forum
01 - This is the base and you will need to update this design!
02 - Reference design
Required Screens & Features:
We are supplying designs from the previous challenge and need you to merge specific items and update the user experience.
A. Existing Screen Refinements and Exploration
00 Overall:
- Top banner: we would like to incorporate the top banner as shown in 02 (please see reference image in above shared folder)
- Documents: Add the icons showing the documents should be self-explanatory (i.e. word, excel icons…)
- Live Chat functionality should be removed from the navigation of “FAQ and Help” Pages and also from the footer.
- Remove FAQ's & Help (05_2-FAQs-&-Help.gif).
- In the links pane, we will only have links to webpages and not documents.
01 Dashboard:
Screens to be updated: 01_0-Dashboard.gif, 01_1-Dashboard.gif, 01_4-Dashboard.gif, 01_5-Dashboard.gif
- Interactive map: Since the map can quickly become very busy, we would like you to explore the possibilities to expand or collapse regional information (zoom in/out, clicking…). What is a good solve for this? Think through this experience.
- Remove the statistics from the landing page
- Search field can be larger/longer
02 Profile:
- When a user clicks on their profile, we would like to have a setting that allows the user to be able to customize their content (what and where they would like to see things). Look to design the profile/settings on how to manage this.
03 Regulators:
Screens to be updated: 03_0-Regulators.gif, 03_1-Regulators.gif, 03_2-Regulators.gif, 03_3-Regulators.gif
- We would like to incorporate displaying the Regulators by country and then listing them vertically below.
- We would like to also add the regulator icons (but we need you to assess/test how this might look and if it makes sense)
04 Glossary:
Reference: 04_3-Regulations.gif, T04_3-Regulations.gif
- Right now the glossary looks too simple… it would be interesting to see if you can refine the concept.
All Screens (Desktop, Tablet, Phone)
- Review all screens for graphic consistency, user flow issues, font and color consistency.
- Note any recommendations and updates you make so we can properly evaluate
Important:
- Keep things consistent. This means all graphic styles should work together.
- All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance
Target Audience
- Internal employees
Judging Criteria
