Challenge Summary
Welcome to the RUX - Retail Mobile App Design Concepts Challenge. In this challenge we are looking for you to create initial Design Concepts for a mobile retail application. Think about and design for the user experience as it applies to listed mobile requirements.
What is a RUX Challenge?
The RUX (Rapid User Experience) challenge uses the same format as our famous LUX Challenge except it is not "Live" at an event. The RUX Challenge Series provides you with an opportunity to show digital leaders from some of the largest companies in the world just how good your concepting and user experience (UI/UX) design skills are.
RUX (Rapid User Experience) challenges are fast, fun, and have more chances for you to capture prize money!
Note: You do not need to have RUX challenge experience to join this challenge - Just jump in and give it a try! Make sure to follow the challenge details, the challenge forum and ask questions
This RUX is all about creating designs for a Mobile Retail Application that provides:
- A single platform for Retail Customers who what to use the mobile application to find products (laptops, peripherals, gaming devices) and access to software and software licenses.
- The ability to see marketing information, offers, what's new
- The application will have insight into the user's engagement with the company (and can provide the company a better understanding of devices/software that they need - creating a customer 365 view). This information can continue to help create a better customer experience with the company.
- This application is meant to provide a seamless shopping experience for both online and in-store.

1. Setup and Login
- Post downloading of the App, ability to log into the mobile application using an existing ID with the company’s online portal (or)
- Create a new profile using:
- - - - - Phone/email ID and password (or biometric option if available),
- - - - - First Name, Last Name, Product Delivery Address (optional),

- Post login, a “welcome to the MRA (Mobile Retail App), we are here to help. Get Started!” kind of message to be issued.
2. Online Store Experience
- Homepage should show currently trending products and those that have a marketing priority
- Browse products includes Search by categories (laptops / peripherals / gaming / deals)
- When a product has been selected, the following features should be available:
- - - A few lines of high level details with ability to know more
- - - Detailed Technical Details about the product
- - - Additional images
- - - Ability to add as a favourite/wish list, submit a review (if purchase history has the product)
- - - consolidated rating, ability to view user reviews, num of (proud?) owners
- Buy Online (suggestion: perhaps using a clearly called out swipe functionality) - All ancillary experiences like add-to- cart, look-up nearest store with stock, change delivery address from default, gifting/gift messaging, redeem a promotion, etc should be included.
- Bundled product Offers (showing $$ saved)
- Book a training session (Select a store, time, Subject*)
* Subjects could be Software (ex Office 365, Windows, Skype, iE, OneDrive, Paint 3D, etc ) training lessons or Device (Windows Lumia, Microsoft Band, Xbox, etc) usage lessons.
3. Brick & Mortar (physical) Store Experience
This is the experience the prospect/customer has when in or around a physical store. Beacons will be deployed in the stores which will activate the app, and have a 1-way communication from the beacon to the app.
- Personalized welcome message when near the store, with messaging on potential deals on products of interest
- Personalized message when entering the store, with indication of easter egg deals (asking that the customer navigate to a specific location, ex. Surface Pro Laptops section, to unlock a personalized deal)
- Ability to view all the store promotions & unlock any of them (implying, if the customer chooses to buy, the promo will be applied)
- Ability to pick up a product and scan the bar-code
- - - to get more details on the product (should include ratings, any in-store or online deals, ability to purchase)
- - - self-checkout (either using credit card on file or by providing new credit card info)
- - - Scan physical promotional offers (which will feature a bar code), for ex, booking a training session, and check-in for these
[Nice to have] Spare change donation – as part of the checkout process, the customer should have the option to donate the differential of the actual cost (ex $223.45) and the rounded offdollar amount ($224) may be donated to a charitable cause (so an amount of $0.55). If done, a “We have been able to donate $XZ today, and $YZ this month thanks to such simple acts of kindness” should be shown.
4. Store Agent Experience App (STAXA)
A separate and critical user of this entire experience is also the Store Agent (human agents who man the retail brick & mortar stores). When a user who has the App walks-in, the store agent must receive the notification of the event, and all associated information regarding the customer so that they may service them better. Beacons placed in the store will be used to recognize the customer’s presence in the store
The STAXA, which does not need the same look & feel as the Mobile Retail App will use the customer information generated by the MRA for an enhanced and personalized in-store customer experience, without intrusion.
The STAXA should feature:
- Alerting all store agents in a given store when a customer enters. The Alert notification
- Should include customer image & first name if available
- Store Agent should have the ability to assign a customer to themselves (indicating they will engage with them)
- Store Agent should be able to see
- - - Past purchase history
- - - A ‘likely to buy’ list of recommendations (derived based on empirical knowledge of past purchase patterns of consolidated customer database and demographically-derived personas)
- - - Social sentiment
- - - List of online favourites, and abandoned online purchases
- Ability to checkout products on behalf of the customer
- Provide personalized events, offer information for the customer
