Challenge Summary
Let us know if you have any questions in the forum!
What is a RUX Challenge?
The RUX (Rapid User Experience) challenge uses the same format as our famous LUX Challenge except it is not "Live" at an event. The RUX Challenge Series provides you with an opportunity to show digital leaders from some of the largest companies in the world just how good your concept and user experience (UI/UX) design skills are.
RUX (Rapid User Experience) challenges are fast, fun, and have more chances for you to capture prize money!
Note: You do not need to have RUX challenge experience to join this challenge - Just jump in and give it a try! Make sure to follow the challenge details, the challenge forum and ask questions.
The goal of this challenge is to take the provided design problem, analyze the user experience and provide better design concepts and visual ideas on how the application might look and work!

Challenge Goals
The goal of the redesign is to allow users to be more self-sufficient in order to reduce the number of support tickets they open and phone calls to IBM for help. We are looking for new and exciting User Experiences. An experience that is sticky and makes the navigation and the usability a leading design element. We want to challenge the norm or traditional site flows and navigation structures. Think outside the box and show us your ideas!
Documentation
- Wireframes (PPT): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1axAXeykcvWscslpk0811lvjQQ0L_aguK/view?usp=sharing
- The client has put together a demo based on the wireframes. Treat it as references only. It should give you a way to visualize the user flows. We are looking for UI and design concepts. We can and should completely redesign this to make it more engaging, and user-friendly. Demo App: http://higgins.eu-gb.mybluemix.net/#/
Screen Requirements
We are looking and open to concepts and ideas here. While the wireframes are a good start to understanding the user flow, they should be taken ONLY as references and not a "wireframes".
1) Landing Page
PPT page 1
- Dashboard and default page when user opens the portal
- Different access to non-logged and logged in user. Without going in to check, it can be reflected as a login option vs. link to profile type visualization. This page doesn't have any upvote/comment/interact/input restriction.
- Needs the ability to perform a search without being logged in.
- If the user wants to participate (upvote/downvote, comment, etc.) they need to log in.
- Main Navigations: Search, Forum, Enhancements, Config Storage
- What else can be provided here? Show us your ideas! This is the main page of the site so it should be engaging and visually exciting. Remember, we are looking for new and inventive ways of navigating the sites. For ex, Direct links to "open issues" or a summary section that includes recent updates to given issues or similar are the kinds of things we would expect to see people "add" here, but I don't know that it's obvious what "kinds" of things a person might add. Especially, again if a user is authenticated we could give them some benefit from the front page outside of the core functional pieces we are doing right now.
2) Search Flows
PPT page 2,3,4,5,6
- How can we step up and provide a better search flow and layout? Cognitive search? Image Search? Multi-search? How do we perform an advanced search?
- Define search categories (These are all product names): "Workspace, Connections, Notes, Cloud, Traveler, Domino, Sametime". Can we make these search flow steps better? How about if the user was not clear about what they looking for, how do we guide them to the right choice? There might be other ways they could be grouped/or activate a switch that describes the software stack that underpins a given product set/family or the like. The community will neither know these are each products, nor naturally think of how they could define any alternate search categories w/o some help.
- Once a user selects the category, they will need to enter the search query and then perform search. How can we improve the search experience to a new level here? Some Personalization? History like Recent search query or Popular FAQ? Etc?
- The Search Results list will be grouped based on the different sources (Google, Google/Lotus.com, IBM Support, Test/Forum). It's too crowded right now and the scrolled frame area is not giving the best User Experience. How can we improve the search results page overall?
- Search Result content consists of Title, Short Description, and Link. Is there any way to make the appearance of search content looks more interesting and useful? Also, right now, if we click the title of search content, it will expand/collapse the content to save space, should we keep the interactions here? Again, show us your ideas for the best user experience
- It is very important that a user is able to move in and out of search results and details. The user should not lose the context of what the search results where (or what they searched for) when viewing the details of a result. This user interaction should be easy, fast, and fluid, with the ability to preview documents ideally.
- Show us new ideas to improve the search flows overall. We want a super easy to use and streamlined experience.
3) Forum Flows
PPT page 9,10
- Forum functionality should follow normal forum conventions of feeds, favorites, up/down voting, comments, pinned items, etc.
- What are the best interactions for the forum? Can we filter the forum content?
- Personalization feature?
- How should forum content details look to give the best reading experience?
- Ability to see forum feeds easily
- Forum Statistics? People Statistics? How valid is the forum post? Should I open the forum post? How do I know it will be interesting or relevant to what I need? Etc.
- How to post a new thread in the forum? How to reply to a forum thread? How to report forum thread that's showing inappropriate content?
- Show us your best idea to manage and view the forum! Again, the general user flows outlined is just an example. We are looking for the best user experience overall here.
