The goal of this competition is to come up with the look and feel of a web portal targeted to first-time parents. You are provided with user stories and references to follow as guidance.
Concept Design Goals
Introducing solids is often overwhelming for parents as they have no idea where to start, what to do and how to progress once they've started. Cooking skills are often limited and parents feel anxious during a time that should be fun and exciting. There are many books available with recipes, etc, for babies but very few resources which actually guide parents through the process, step by step.
The social aspect of the website is a really important feature as it allows parents to ask questions to an expert (dietitian), interact with each other and share tips, recipes etc. It functions as a sort of online mothers group and also helps to differentiate this product from a book or just reading information on the internet. They can also follow specialist topics i.e, fussy eating, allergies, etc.
The goal of the product is to provide step by step guidance for parents starting their babies on solids, recipes and information regarding feeding babies / young children. Revenue is generated via subscribing to the course/guide and an online shop.
The most important features you need to keep in mind:
- Simple visual design and use.
- Guidance process.
- Social aspect/forum to allow members to interact with each other,
- Ability to easily move between different weeks, topics, shopping lists, recipes, etc.
We expect the final design will be fun, bright, colourful and parent friendly using a pastel colour palette which would target adults with infants (peaceful and clear - see provided stock reference). Parents should feel that starting solids with their baby is a fun adventure they're about to go on together as well as feeling in control. Avoid busy or cluttered visual design, it shouldn’t be boring or have a clinical aspect.
Supporting Documentation - link
1. Content: to be used across the site pages.
2. Sitemap: to be used for the navigation, open to suggestions.
3. Visual Reference: stock photos to extract style reference. Do not need to use the stock photos, just for style reference.
Screens Requirements
Overall
- Show hover/active states for buttons, dropdowns, breadcrumbs, errors/success states, elements with interaction, etc.
- Create an easy site navigation (header/footer) to all the important pages and features described below in a sensate fashion. See sitemap for reference to include those items as part of the navigation.
1. Home page
This is the landing page of the service we offer, first impression. It should catch users attention upfront.
This page should offer the following content at least:
- Recipes.
- Information about introducing solids.
- Information about the 12 week guide.
We are open to suggestions about the content and imagery that can be used for this page. It needs to be bold and clear.
2. Weekly Plan
User is able to see high level and detailed view of a weekly plan.
It should support the following features, overall:
- It will include information about what is happening during a particular week. This week, next week, etc (allow selection).
- It must display the recipes they'll be making in a selected week, the meals they'll already have in the freezer for the week (carried over from previous weeks), a link to their shopping list and links to the recipes for that week.
- Users will have the ability to swap/replace particular recipes if they're not suitable and obtain information about allergens in each recipe (potentially with the ability to exclude recipes which contain particular allergens).
Stages
- Each stage is 4 weeks long.
- Stage 1: first tastes and purees.
- Stage 2: introducing texture, allergens.
- Stage 3: finger foods and family foods.
- We require to present the current/next/prev stage in a clear way in relationship with the current week (or selected week), user needs to be guided. It could be an useful idea to put this somehow in the homepage.
Recipes
A recipe should feature the following:
- A recipe should have title, thumbnail, step by step photos, description. If you can provide the full details view of a recipe that would be great.
- Categorization e.g. purees, lumps and bumps, finger foods, family foods.
- Ability to be marked as favourite.
- Ability to add personal notes on a recipe, including information about reactions their baby has to specific recipes.
- Some recipes will be available for public access while others will only be available to members. Showcase a “lock” or “private” signifier for this scenario.
Shopping List
- Each week they will then be provided with a shopping list for that week.
- User can tick/toggle items they already have and add any other items they need.
- A shopping list can be saved as a PDF.
3. Social
User is able to interact with other users through a newsfeed (e.g. Facebook). It must support the following features:
- Ask questions to a dietitian (private messages).
- Follow other users (like a virtual mothers group) and ask questions in groups.
- Follow topics of interest. Design how a user follows a topic.
- Chat with other members. Design a chat view showcasing a conversation sample.
- Share pictures of the recipes they've made. Design a post sample with text, picture, video, etc.
4. Shop
Purchase feeding equipment. There will be 10+ products available to purchase and users will be able to click on each product to see additional photos and access information about that specific product.
A product should feature the following:
- A product should have title, thumbnail, photos, description, price, available quantity in stock.
- Products could be a bib, bowl, spoon, freezer trays, highchair, messy mat, among others.
- Ability to store them in a wish list of items to buy later.
