Challenge Overview

Challenge Objectives

Develop some dashboards to display the data we've collected from the YAW Misalginment Prediction in an interesting and compelling way using Power BI. The data to be used for the challege is the YAW misalignment prediction

Project Background

The business objective is to optimize energy generation at each WTG by dynamic calculation of Yaw misalignment. We need a predictive model for dynamic calculation of Yaw misalignment at every 10 minutes rolling for next 90 days by using historical SCADA Data and calculate optimum value for the period.

In wind turbines, correct nacelle alignment to main wind direction is necessary for optimum generation and improve the annual energy production. Lot of analysis & reports says that 4 deg average will cause 1 % AEP loss

Ideally, Yaw offset should be zero degrees, but in a conservative way, business would like to keep the band within 0 to 2 degrees on either side.. The ultimate goal of this project is to optimize energy generation at each Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) by dynamic calculation of Yaw misalignment at every 10 min interval.

Individual Requirements

We ran a set of challenges to predict the YAW Misaligment data.  The csv file generated based on the prediction is shared in the forums. Also a sample dashboard is provided in the forum.  You are not limited to the dashboards given -- we're looking for your creativity and insights.
  • Validation: - Optimal YAW - This value is per turbine, so when the user selects multiple turbine an error message can be shown to the Optimal YAW section.
  • Validation: - Date Range should be restricted based on the data loaded.

Final Submission Guidelines

Submit the following
  • A summary document that explains the visualizations that you've created, their purpose, and any features you've added especially, ones that might not be completely obvious to users.
  • Power BI Dashboard file
  • Any new data files you've created beyond the ones provided in the forums.  (optional)

Checkpoint Submission
You are strongly encouraged by Thursday, Jan 31st at 9:00 AM EST to make an early checkpoint submission.  We'll be conducting a client review on Friday and will be providing feedback based on the early submissions.  You can then make a second (final) submission before the final deadline.  This checkpoint submission isn't required but obviously the feedback will be quite valuable.
