Challenge Summary
Round 1
Round 2
Primary Goals
The badges should have a similar shape to keep them uniform and it should be easy enough for other designers to create other badges with the same style that you are designing in. Also note that there are two different TYPES of badges:
SET badges:
- SET badges are badges that you receive once and can no longer unlock again.
- RANKED badges: RANKED badges are badges that members can level up and achieve the next rank of that badge. For example, a member earns the Design Hero badge, they just placed 1st in their 100th Design challenge, which means they RANK up from Design Hero (silver) to Design Hero (gold). That being said, in your designs for your badges, you will need to take into account how you will distinguish a bronze badge from silver and gold. This distinguishing should be uniform across all badges as well.
SET BADGES:
The Rookie Badge - Welcome and congratulations! You have just earned your first badge here at Topcoder.
The TCO19 Champion Badge - WOW! You are the cream of the crop this year because you have proved yourself to be the absolute best in your track this year. Well Done! (Please check the forum to TCO19 design)
RANKED BADGES:
- The Code Competitor Badge - Congratulations! You have placed in 5 Code competitions, well done! Placing in 5 more competitions will level up this badge.
- The Design Hero Badge - Congratulations! You are a force to be reckoned with as you’ve placed 1st in five Design competitions. Five more 1st place finishes and you will level up this badge.
- The Blabbermouth Badge - You must be getting into some heated debates. That is 1000 posts in the forums! 1000 more to earn Silver.
- The Bug Crusher Badge - You have successfully fixed 50 bugs. Keep crushing to level up!
- The Challenge Accepted Badge - Burn baby burn! You successfully challenged a fellow competitor during the challenge phase of competition. Keep burning to level up this badge.
- The Stamina Badge - You put blood sweat and tears in this marathon match and ended up with the most optimized algorithm over all those other slow pokes. More Marathon wins like this will earn you a higher leveled badge!
Branding Guidelines
These badges will be displayed on Topcoder member profiles. Plus they will be able to be shared socially. For this challenge, we don’t want to hold you to strict branding guidelines and prefer you to be open to your creativity.
Target Audience
These badges will be specifically for Topcoder members including all tracks: copilots, designers, developers, competitive programmers, data scientists, and QA specialists.
Reference Designs
The following images were taken from another app and are here to point out some of the requirements mentioned above. We are not looking for replicas of these badges.

Notice that all these badges are of similar shape and their designs are cohesive.
Image2
Here is a close up of the badge. Notice how you can insinuate what the name of the badge is just from the image.
Judging Criteria
We are looking for badge designs that members can be proud of. Something that will look amazing on our site. Maybe it can even translate to a pin or decal.
