Challenge Summary

Welcome to "HCL Sketch Design System Challenge". We need to create a complete set of Sketch Design System based on Material UI components so our technical employees (designer and developer) can use it in any application development process within our company. 

Read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. Let us know if you have any questions in the challenge forum!

Round 1

Submit your initial Sketch Design System and Showcase Screen for a Checkpoint Feedback
- As part of your checkpoint submission, you must upload your submission to MarvelApp so we can provide direct feedback on your designs. Please include the MarvelApp URL in your notes.txt. 
- Make sure all pages have the correct flow. Use the proper file numbers, (1, 2, 3, etc.)

Round 2

Submit your Final Sketch Design System and Showcase Screen plus Checkpoint Updates
- As part of your Final submission, you must replace your checkpoint submission with the final submission into MarvelApp so we can provide direct feedback on your designs. Please include the MarvelApp URL in your notes.txt.
- Make sure all pages have the correct flow. Use the proper file numbers, (1, 2, 3, etc.)

PROJECT BACKGROUND
- The primary goal of this challenge is to Design a complete set of Sketch Design System based on Material UI components with HCL branding implemented on those components which will be used for any future app development in our company.

01) Sketch Design System Component Elements

- You need to create a design style for the following component categories (check any component that needs UI elements and create one):
- Style (Icons, Colors, Typography, Links)
- Layout (Grid)
- Utils (Modals, Transitions, Popover, Popper, Portal, No SSR, Click Away Listener, Box)
- Component Demos (All of them)
- Component API (Out of Scope)
- CSS in JS (Out of Scope)
- System (All of them)
- Customization (Out of Scope)
- Guides (Out of Scope)
- Premium Themes (One sample page of the Premium Themes to show how the component elements looks like in action)
- Lab (All of them)
- Discover More (Out of Scope)
- Blog (Out of Scope)
 
- The look and feel should complement our Branding Guidelines
 
- We're gonna need to have the component elements created for light and dark theme
 
- For the Design System we want to follow Atomic Design:
- Starting with basic styles followed by increasing the complexity
- In your Sketch file, each component should have its own page and be featured in all states (enabled, hover, focus, active, disabled, visited, etc.) if applicable
- Each component should be responsive/resizable to represent the behavior of the actual coded components
 
02) Showcase Screen
- We need to create one web design to showcase and explains the common usage of the design elements, so it can be gathered properly organized and easy to understand/apply. 
- Put your component element items into the web design for display purpose
- Imagine you're designing pages from a new App. What information do you need to properly follow the same branding guidelines? Think about the best way to deliver this information.

- In-scope: Responsive Web (Desktop, Tablet, and Mobile App)
 
OPERATING SYSTEMS
- Web only (Windows/Linux/Mac)
 
BRANDING GUIDELINES
- Follow Our Branding Guidelines Document 
- Showcase Screen (Desktop: minimum 1366px Width with Height adjusted accordingly)
 
DESIGN ASSETS
Design Assets will be posted in the challenge forum

- HCL_Component-Inspiration (FOR REFERENCE ONLY, this is what we are using at the moment - Please iterate and improve on this)
 
JUDGING CRITERIA
Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
- UI Component Element Completeness 
- How well does your Design align with our Branding Guidelines
- Sketch Source Files Arrangement
- Execution and thoughtfulness put into solving the problem
- The overall design and user experience
- Cleanliness of screen design and user flow
- Ease of use
 
FINAL DELIVERABLES
- Declaration Files about all stock photos, stock icons, and font link source used in your design 
- All original design files in JPG/PNG for client review
- All original design files in Sketch and saved as a layered editable files
- Marvel Prototype:
- We need you to upload your screens to Marvel App
- Please send your marvel app request in the challenge forum
- You MUST include your Marvel app sharing URL link as a text file in your submission (in your marvel app prototype, click on share and then copy the link)

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

Screening:

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
