Welcome to “Marathon Match Promotions Design Challenge"!  In this challenge, we are looking to design a couple of banners  to promote our upcoming marathon match series that we’re going to run on Topcoder in the next 2 months.

Read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. Let us know if you have any questions in the challenge forum!

Round 1

Submit designs for the final deadline:
  • Main Concept Banner (social size: 1000px x 1000px)
  • New Challenge Launched Banner (social size: 1000px x 1000px)
  • The 4 Variations Banners  (social size: 1000px x 1000px)

Round 2

Submit designs for the final deadline:
  • Main Concept Banner (all 5 sizes listed below)
  • New Challenge Launched Banner (all 4 sizes listed below)
  • The 4 Variations Banners (all 4 sizes listed below)

  • Design a couple of banners to promote our series
  • We will have a few different banner sizes
  • Design for web

Requirements:
Challenge Background:
This project will be asking Topcoder members to solve tough challenges relating to weather anomalies and climate forecasting. The competitions will be sponsored by USBR.

Every 2 weeks we are going to launch a new challenge.

Based on the details above, please design a couple of banners:
  1. Concept  Banner
  • Title: Forecasting Rodeo 2
  • Subtitle: Closing the gap on sub-seasonal climate forecasting
  • Button: “Learn more”
  • Additional content: Over $800,000 in prizes!
  • Topcoder logo
  • USBR logo: US Bureau of Reclamation
  • Feel free to add any icon/ graphics to enhance this
 
2. New Challenge Launched Banner
This banner should follow same style like the above one but with the updates below.
  • Title: Forecasting Rodeo 2
  • Subtitle: Closing the gap on sub-seasonal climate forecasting
  • Text “New Challenge Launched!”
  • Button: “Join Now”
  • Topcoder logo
  • USBR logo: US Bureau of Reclamation
  • Feel free to add any icon/ graphics to enhance this

3. Banner Variations  
In addition to this we would like to see a 4 variations for your concept idea and new challenge launched. That can be different color changes, a different image, etc. but in the same template/ look.


Sizes
For each banner above, we need it designed for a few sizes:
1. Social media: 1000 x 1000 px
2. Topcoder Dashboard: 1538 x 583 px
3. Newsletter intro banner: 1024 x 512 px
4. Newsletter small banner: 1200 x 244 px
5. Presentation page top banner: 2048 x 822 px (this size is required only for the one concept banner as we won’t change it)

Remember to use photos at high resolution to look good for all banner sizes.

Round 1 Deliverables:
(Concept Banner + New Challenge Launched Banner)  x 5 options (1 original concept + 4 variations) at 1024 x 512 px  => 10 banners

Round 2 Deliverables:
 2. (Concept Banner + New Challenge Launched Banner)  x 5 options (1 original concept + 4 variations) at All 4 Sizes + presentation concept banner => 41 banners

Key Items to Focus on
- This banners must look and feel modern, clean and professional.
- Make your design stand out

Branding
  • The color palette is open to the designers, but for large image treatments/ background we would prefer if you would stay within Topcoder logo colors
  • Typography is open to designers
  • Stock photos and stock icons are allowed from the approved sources.
  • You can download the Topcoder logo from here.
  • You can use any photos from TC Flickr Album

Target Audience
Topcoder competitors on Marathon Matches (Data Science track)

Judging Criteria
Your submission will be judged by:
  • How easy is to scan the information on it
  • How exciting does your banner looks
  • Completeness of design

Final Deliverables
  • All original source files.
  • All submission files
  • Declarations
  • Preview file
  • Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as a layered PSD file, Adobe Illustrator, Sketch or Adobe XD

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

Screening:

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
