Challenge Summary

Welcome to our "FAST - Heuristic Evaluation & Competitive Assessment Challenge". This is a NEW and different type of challenge where we are looking to conduct design research and visualize the results in a simple way! In this challenge, we would like you to quickly evaluate, compare, and research the provided website experience based on a heuristic/competitive assessment guide (of your own creation) and evaluate some of our competitor's site using the same guidelines.

Read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. Let us know if you have any questions in the challenge forum!

BACKGROUND AND CHALLENGE GOALS
  • We have a customer that is looking to "Evaluate our current landscape and website".
  • At Topcoder we are looking to try something new and tap into all the great design and research minds at Topcoder.

    1) Provide an expert assessment (e.g. heuristic evaluation, etc.) of the provided website
    2) Provide a high-level competitive analysis, focusing on the eCommerce experience (not an analysis of the business model)

DESIGN CONSIDERATION
  • Think if you were pitching your analysis and feedback - how would you present the information?
  • We have provided a template for you to use and add in your analysis.
  • We are looking to quickly leverage your analysis so make sure to use the template.

RESEARCH & FEATURE REQUIREMENTS
  • Evaluate our current landscape and website including our competitors
  • We are looking for you to identify the most important heuristics to use as you review and compare the site experiences.
  • We recommend that you keep the heuristics to a relatively small number of categories (5-10) to use as evaluation criteria to review.
  • The attached doc (Heuristics for eCommerce Evaluations) may offer some useful suggestions, but you shouldn’t feel limited to those included in the document.
  • Important: Use the heuristic guides to compare our website with competitors and then use visuals to illustrate those insights with brief written insight descriptions (no more than 2-3 sentences)
  • Format of the responses should be in keynote or powerpoint format (see provided template)

    Other things to think about:
    • Easiness of the website to be used in all aspects (navigation, purchase flow, etc)
    • Web interface optimization, usability, branding, and analytics
    • Understand that in addition to large scale changes, often small design tweaks can have a significant impact on performance
