Challenge Objectives
  • Design concepts for a Responsive web application (Desktop and Phone)
  • Understanding the problem and providing an engaging solution.
  • Desktop screens plus 2 phone screens.

Project Background
Our customer is a financial services company offering retirement-related products similar to 401K plans for their customers. To help their customers understand and learn more about finance, tax savings and investments, they are looking to create a more engaging "educational experience" that will allow a customer the ability to learn and self-service themselves quickly.

The goal of this design concepts challenge is to design the "financial education" application focused on creating a new, fun, and engaging user experience. We want to explore new ways of engaging our customers to take the time to learn about their financial future through modern techniques like gamification, recommendation and reward systems, teaching modules, etc. In the end, our customer would like to see an increase in engagement with this tool from their financial customer base.

Users
This application would be used by anyone who wants to learn or get ideas about financial management. The user could be an existing customer who enrolled in 401K plans or a new customer who is looking to learn more about finance and their retirement options. Our users could be of any age group, any gender or level of knowledge. Consider this audience while you design the solution.

Screens Requirements
For this challenge, we are not providing exact screen requirements. You are free to design as many as you like as long as your screens are in line with the flow since this is a design concepts challenge.

1. Onboarding (Desktop)
The application would onboard customers. The app would capture some initial information about the customer, like interests, financial situation, etc, based on the responses then the app would be able to target them better with customized learning module recommendations. The user is able to change their interests later.

2. Landing Page (Desktop + Phone)
The landing page would show the user their progress within the app, the latest/recommended learning modules, badges, achievements, notifications or even discussions from other users on the topics they are interested in. What other concepts, priorities might be useful to show on their dashboard?

3. Financial Education Topics List (Desktop + Phone)
Design an interesting way to browse the education catalog of the app. Supply a way to search the catalog with filters etc. Show sample topics related to finance, investment or tax savings. What would be the more interesting metrics to show about a learning module to make it more desirable (key learnings, duration, points to earn, badges to get, achievements to acquire). Could the application recommend next steps or additional training based on what a user has already completed?

4. Financial Education Topics Details (Desktop)
This is where the actual learning modules/phases take place. We are interested in how you show the content/module. The user experience should not feel like reading a word/pdf file. Our ask is to make it more interactive and engaging (if possible). The experience might show estimated time to complete, help, share, recommended modules after completion. The content could be a combination of reading and video. We are open to your suggestions - we recommend doing your research in this space.

5. My Profile (Desktop)
The user should be able to see his/her progress in detail. Are there different user levels (e.g. newbie, regular, pro = tied to financial terminology)? What achievements has the user accomplished? What are the next badges he/she can get? Do not feel limited by these ideas, we are open to your suggestions.

6. Leaderboard/Rewards/Discussions/Quiz (Desktop)
Which of the above could help customer engagement the best? Experiment with the different approaches or include them all.
  • Leaderboard: Let the user see overall where he/she stands compared to other members. Who is a member of the week?
  • Rewards: Any offers/coupons/rewards once they complete the module?
  • Discussions: To make the experience more engaging you might experiment with some social features. Let the users discuss the topics/modules. You could also include subject matter experts in the discussions.
  • Quiz: A Popup quiz from the topics they completed.

7. Sign In (Desktop)
We are looking to include a sign-in screen where existing customers can log into the app with their email address and password. Keep link to user registration and forgot password options. Show some error validation in this screen. Note: This is not a priority screen.

8. Other Screen(s) (Desktop)
Any other screen/concepts for this application? This is a design concepts challenge… this is the space where you can shine/showcase your thoughts.
