Challenge Summary

Welcome to the "RUX - 72H T-Mobile Tuesdays App UI Concepts Design Challenge". In this challenge we are looking for your great design skills to quickly help us conceptualize and design how the current T-Mobile Tuesdays App can be improved significantly and solving a series of existing issues for non-T-Mobile customers. The main goal of this challenge is to explore solutions by implementing out of the box ideas and concepts.

Let us know if you have any questions!

Full Description & Project Guide
Background information

T-Mobile has a mobile application (iOS and Android) called T-Mobile Tuesdays that can be downloaded by end users on their mobile phones. As a TMO customer you can download and login to gain full functionality of the application. As a non-TMO customer you can still download the application but do not get full functionality within the app.  We are looking for fun and creative step by step processes to turn these non-customers into customers.

T-Mobile Tuesdays is a fun, vibrant customer appreciation application that rewards T-Mobile members with rewards, unique offerings, and more.

Often, non-T-Mobile customers will download the app to explore the content and offers to gain more knowledge about what kinds of perks they could be receiving. Since non-customers download this app too, T-Mobile is looking for ways to gracefully convert or begin the conversion process of non-T-Mobile customers, over to T-Mobile customers.

Additional Requests for Live Event
After announcing the winners, we will want the top 3 finalists to "appear live" with us from Topcoder Day @ T-Mobile.  At the appearances we will be requesting you to finish your final fixes live. You will have approximately 3 - 4 hours to complete the final fixes.  To appear live you must be willing to join a Google Hangout or Skype/Teams.  You don’t have to remain on screen the  whole time.  We will introduce you to the audience at the beginning of the day, then come back for when we announce the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Challenge Goals
- Design a fun and creative step by step process within the app to get non-T-Mobile customers to convert to T-Mobile
- Design the T-Mobile Tuesday app to be more informative to non-customers
- Allow non-customers to use the T-Mobile Tuesdays application and ultimately encourage non-subscribers to switch to TMO.
- TMO would like for non-customers to continue to download the application, but be able to use and view more of the application without being asked for a login.
- Provide a ‘no login’ experience for non-customers by showing different content specifically tuned to encourage these non-customers  to become customers.
- TMO would like to give access to the application in a directed fashion to allow users to see the features of the application and hopefully drive them to an opportunity to sign up for new service or take incremental steps towards signing up for new service (i.e.: Viewing rate plan info, store locator, coverage map, etc.)

Key Element to Explore and Improve
With this challenge, we are looking for concepts that allow the opportunity to create a "Magenta Carpet" moment that introduces a new potential user in a more effective way than the current app does. Magenta is the brand color that defines T-Mobile, so instead of a “red carpet”, think about ways a non-customer user can be introduced to T-Mobile in a way that makes them love the brand and want to switch to become a customer!

Right now, if you are a non-customer or customer, you're really just seeing the perks and have limited interactivity. Find ways to expand on the non-customer user experience once they have entered the app.

The following are just suggested screens based on current experience, but you have free room to explore new workflows. Beyond design, think of an overall new UX for non-T-Mobile customers. What are they missing? How can the new users be part of T-Mobile in a simple way? Think out of the box!

SUGGESTED SCREENS
1) New Dashboard for Non-T-Mobile Customers - Key Screen

The existing T-Mobile Tuesdays App uses this section to showcase all the perks and features for current T-Mobile customers who are users, but the information presented to non-T-Mobile customers is really simple and vague.

The main goal of this design is to figure out a creative step by step process for getting non-T-Mobile customers to become customers.  There is great room for exploration here to share more about T-Mobile, not just the perks, but the great plans, pricing, and exclusive T-Mobile tools (like a pet tracker!) and to find out more about switching to T-Mobile (along with great perks that you do get!)

2) Hitting a non customer “wall” in the current T-Mobile Tuesdays App
Right now if you're a non-customer user in the app, you will hit a “wall” pretty quickly if you try to claim one of the perks. How can you improve this design by making it more fun, and more persuasive to the user so they take a next step towards becoming a T-Mobile customer?

Combine creative design with unique ways to move the user towards switching to T-Mobile at this “moment”

3) Splash / Login Experience / New Customer Experience
The current app forces users to authenticate in order to access the full features on it, however we are looking to drastically change how this user experience is handled.

Currently T-Mobile customers can take full advantages of the perks offered by T-Mobile, and non-customer users can only see and “Take a look” at those perks but not take advantage of them. This is the current experience. We need you to explore new ideas and concepts on how this “wall” can be removed for non-customer users. Think on:
- Onboarding experiences
- Conversion features from the splash or login screen.  Think of creative ways to get non customers to become customers as soon as they open the app.
- App Tour invitations
- What are you missing?
- Any new ideas are welcome here.

4) Switching Concept Via Camera Usage
T-Mobile wants to see ways that a non-customer, who is inside their T-Mobile Tuesdays app, can simply and easily take a photo of their current mobile phone bill for the purpose of showing the non-customer how much money they could save or advantages like “unlimited data” or “free Netflix” they can receive if they were to switch to T-Mobile. On the web, T-Mobile uses this interface - https://www.t-mobile.com/switch-to-t-mobile and while all of that functionality is NOT needed here, you could explore a user’s ability to take a photo of their current bill and then see the savings and perks they could be receiving!

This is a concept screen, which means you have free room to explore out of the box ideas. Doesn’t matter how crazy they are as long as they are fun and easy to use.
We are looking for you as designers to really ramp up the creativity "around" the function. Some ideas we have so far:
- How can emojis and fun brand elements be used to move a user through the steps?
- How can a user share sentiment about their current provider via emojis or snapping a selfie or something fun?
- Think on a fun game style or AR features like Snapchat.

5) Concept of Creating a Non-Authenticated Understanding of a User
In the T-Mobile Tuesdays app, you will quickly see that T-Mobile has a lot of partnerships with very well known brands such as Taco Bell, Major League Baseball (MLB), LiveNation (concerts and event tickets), and additional popular brands. We are looking for design concepts on how the brands that partner with T-Mobile can be used to gather information from non-customers who are using the T-Mobile Tuesdays App.

Imagine a “Wall of Perks” where users can rate those brands by stars or emojis (or some NEW way that you come up with!) T-Mobile would then gain important data about these non-customers such as:
Which brands they care about the most? (what perks matter to them!)
What type of activities, food, social outings this person likes to do.
This is an exploration screen as well, so have in mind that you have free room to explore out of the box ideas.

6) Any extra screen or feature that complements your ideas for the overall new concepts.

7) Presentation Screen - 1920x1080 (16:9 Ratio)
- In a RUX challenge, this screen is the way to showcase your concept so keep it simple and make it look good!
- If you were walking into a meeting and needed to sell your idea - use this screen to showcase your concept.

Key Areas to Focus
- Figure out creative ways to get non-T-Mobile customers to make the switch over to T-Mobile.  Please show the step by step process.
Your goal is to improve the user experience significantly. We are looking to improve the UX for non-customers.
- Design should look clean, elegant and professionally executed. Think that your design might be published in a store and downloaded by thousands of users.
- Add modern UI Design practices: AR, AI, Animations, Make it fun to use!

Screen Size and Device
As this is a mobile application you will be working on creating your concepts for:
- iPhone 6/7/8: 750px width and 1334px height.
