Challenge Summary

Welcome to the "She Will Connect - Girls in STEM Poster Design Challenge sponsored by Intel". In this challenge, we need your help to create a poster design that able to engage, encourage, and inspire young girls to be interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math).  Your poster design needs to be able to attract the attention of young girls ages 10 - 16 and deliver a core message about the exciting opportunities in STEM fields. We want them to get excited about technology opportunities and with the help of the poster design, motivate them to seek more information in one of these fields.

BACKGROUND OVERVIEW
  • We want a poster that entices girls into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)
  • There are young girls in the US country that have all the talent in the world to be bright and amazing
  • Someone just has to tell them that it is in their reach, that they can do it, and encourage them to try, Maybe you can be that someone!
  • Design a poster for young girls that gives them the encouragement they may need to one day be great
  • We want a poster designed that relates to young girls and will help spark their interest in pursuing a STEM-related field of study later on in life
  • The poster can be anything, you can show the girls with their dream projection in the future as great engineers or programmers, or how fixing things is a mindset girl can get too, etc. 

CHALLENGE GOALS
  • The goal of this challenge is to design a poster that represents and encourages girls to get involved in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math)

POSTER DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:
  • The theme for the poster is "She Will Connect" . We encourage you to read about this Intel initiative to understand more about this theme. 
  • Be creative! You can come up with any ideas and show them through your design, as long as they represent STEM and make the observer (girls) want to read and learn more about it. The sky is the limit!
  • You are not required to use the words STEM in the poster nor list out what STEM stands for. Use your discretion!
  • Design your poster for the kids, please do not add the Intel or Topcoder logos inside your poster
  • Poster Size: 20×30 inches with 1" margin
  • Posters should be designed in portrait
  • Color Mode: CMYK
  • Resolution: 300 DPI
  • Fonts: All fonts should be embedded or outlined
  • Unlimited submissions: You can send as many submissions as long each submission is a unique design

JUDGING CRITERIA:
  • Posters will be judged and awarded in one or more of the following categories:
    • Judges Overall Winner - chosen by a select group of sponsor executives.
    • Kids Choice Award Winner - the top voted poster by local students at the 2019 Topcoder Open

JUDGING PROCESS:
  • Up to 20 poster submissions will be on display at the 2019 Topcoder Open in a special design gallery
  • The gallery will be open to the challenge judges and youth audiences to view and cast their vote on 15th November 2019
  • Up to 20 Selected Poster Design presented at TCO19 Final will receive Topcoder T-shirts
  • Kids Choice Award winner will receive $1000 (1 Placement)
  • Judge Selected Award winner will receive $1000 (1 Placement)

TARGET AUDIENCE:
  • The target audience is young girls ages 10 - 16 in the United States who have little or no knowledge of the awesomeness of STEM fields.

FINAL DELIVERABLES
Preview Image
  • Create a preview image as one (1) 1024px by 1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
  • Create/Export a JPG/PNG image file(s) of your poster design
  • Print-ready file as PDF (Color mode: CMYK, Resolution: 300dpi)

Source Files
  • All source files of all graphics created in vector format in either Adobe Illustrator or any similar software should be saved as editable files. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  • The PDF Print Ready File (Color mode: CMYK, Resolution: 300dpi)
  • The font needs to be editable

FINAL FIX
  • If your submission wins, you may be asked to modify your design, graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.
