Challenge Summary

Welcome to the "Topcoder Holiday Card Graphic Design Challenge"! We want to wish our customers and prospects a very Happy Holidays and we want to have YOU, the community, design the digital card (still graphics or animated GIF?). The “Holiday Card” will be emailed to our customers so you can expect most of them to experience the “card” on a desktop or mobile device. 

The design should embrace the Topcoder brand, be vibrant, whimsical, and uplift spirits as we enter a time of celebration, family, and fun for many across the globe.

You are not limited by tools, software, or end format. The only requirements are that the final asset can be sent as part of an email and follows the Topcoder brand.

Overview:
  • Still image/ graphic (JPG or PNG format)
  • Animated GIF (not a requirement, but something to explore if you want)
  • All assets must be on-brand for Topcoder. Refer to the new topcoder.com for inspiration and to familiarize yourself with the new brand
  • Graphics will be used in email communications. Must fit within a 600px by 600px space.
  • Do NOT include the "Email Content" in your designs. We are ONLY looking for the graphics for the email/ digital holiday card.
  • Most importantly, be creative and have fun!!

Round 1

Submit your initial designs and concepts for checkpoint review:

Email Content
The below copy is what will be written and shown alongside the graphic that you create. Hopefully, this sparks some ideas and give you context. You do NOT need to include this copy into your designs.

Branding Guidelines
  • Your graphics and assets must follow the Topcoder brand
  • Use topcoder.com for inspiration and to familiarize yourself with the brand
  • You can view colors and download our fonts from https://topcodr.co/brand

  • Topcoder customers and clients

Things to Avoid In Your Designs:
  • Religious symbols
  • Overly “Winter” settings as many of our customers don’t live in areas where it even snows!
  • “Technology” the design doesn’t need to have a mobile phone or tablet or anything to do with “technology” in it - if anything, this should be a time to unplug and be with your family and friends
    • If you are to use “technology” in your design, make sure it shows how it connects people and brings people closer together OR how we can put down technology to connect more deeply with those that are here with us
  • Stock photos. We want you to create original artwork and designs.

Judging Criteria
Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Overall idea and execution of concepts
  • How well your concepts "look" like Topcoder and follow the brand
  • Creativity

Size & Format:
  • 600px by 600px (can be other aspect ratios, as long as it fits within that space
  • PNG, JPG, animated GIF

Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Source Files
Provide all editable source files. You are not limited to the tools/ software that you can use. Photoshop, Illustrator, XD, Sketch, Etc.
 
Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase, you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

Stock Photography

Stock photography is not allowed in this challenge. All submitted elements must be designed solely by you. See this page for more details.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

Screening:

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
