Project Background
  • The purpose of this project is to redesign a website that will be used by women all around the world who work on the sea to connect at an individual level
  • This membership portal will continue to be driven by the sites blog content
  • The site will also include information about their annual event, UNITE, where women from around the world gather to support one another.

Background
The Women Offshore Foundation, also known as Women Offshore, is an online organization and resource center supporting a diverse workforce on the water. As a non-profit organization, their mission is to shine a light on women in operations, provide resources to foster long-term careers, and share the latest efforts on gender diversity and inclusion in the offshore and maritime industries.

The current website https://womenoffshore.org/  is a blog site built on Wordpress, that they are looking to customize and update with a  membership portal. They envision a membership portal as a platform where members can connect with individuals, share information, and have access to exclusive content. The site should be Responsive!

User Scenario
Anna is working as an engineer on an oil and gas platform in the Gulf of Mexico. The majority of her coworkers are men and sometimes she feels there is gender inequality at her job. She would like to connect with other women in the same field and hear their stories and how they handle the same positives and negatives she has on the job and how to succeed in her career.

She has just found this site (that we’re building) where she sees many articles talking about things she faces often. The platform also has an annual event called UNITE where she can attend and meet other women in her field.

Anna creates an account and is presented with a dashboard of information. She is provided a list of members who also work at sea and who she could connect with. She is able to see upcoming events (like a Town Hall), podcasts, blog stories, and where people are located so she can reach out and see if anyone wants to meet up. Anna connects with Jessie who helps mentor her. Anna loves this site! She becomes part of this community and feels empowered to help other women like her.

Screens
In this challenge we are looking to design the following scenarios:

1. Homepage
This is what the customer has now: https://womenoffshore.org/ and we want to update the design of it. We are looking to simplify but continue to showcase relevant content that interests women to join. The page should have the following elements at least:
  • The current website homepage has a lot of information that we would like to clean up and organize better
  • Blog articles: they are the most important part of the site that drives users and you can see them on the homepage as well. It has 4 categories:
    • Featured Sea Stories
    • Navigate Your Career
    • Podcast
    • Offshore Lifestyle.
  • Podcast: are hosted by Ally Cedeno who interviews women in the industry and shows what is relevant to support an inclusive culture offshore We’d like to embed the podcast player and also promote them more.
  • UNITE: The Annual Conference and is a place where women all around the world gather to support one another. Includes panel discussions, workshops, networking etc. Due to COVID-19, the event will be hosted virtual this year.
  • MentorSHIP: it’s a mentoring program for women all around the world working on the water by which they can connect peer to peer
  • Membership: a good Women Offshore network is important as it will help to reduce the gender gap, as women will be able to share stories, and have access to exclusive content. The customer will offer 2 membership options: Basic (Free) and Premium (Annual Fee) which will include a fee of $120/ year. The premium members will have benefits such as discounts on swag items, discounts at the annual conference, and rewatch recorded videos.
  • We should have a way for the user to log in and get their dashboard quickly.
  • The photography/images to be used should be more with the waves, sea, ocean, sunsets. The sea is what unites these women and we want to avoid the use of specific ship types or industry types. (Note: You can use images from the website)
  • Donate and Shop sections would be good to have as well but with a lower importance
  • Other item nice to have would be a testimonials section and a Hotline link
  • What other content can we show on this page based on the content we have on site to increase membership?

2. Dashboard (Priority)

Once the members are logged in, they will see the dashboard page. The data on the dashboard page will have similar content that is presented on the home page but there will be additional featured content, stories and will be relevant to the "logged-in" user. Such information will be: blog articles, podcasts, mentorSHIP.

The dashboard page will be having other data in addition to that:
  • A central place to get information about Women Offshore such as their mission (“Our mission is to shine a light on women in operations, provide resources to foster long-term careers, and share the latest efforts on gender diversity and inclusion in the offshore and maritime industries.") and the cornerstone of the organization (“A cornerstone of Women Offshore is the blog site with the following categories:
    • Featured Sea Stories: Women in offshore and maritime operations often seem invisible to the outside world, so Women Offshore shines a light on this diverse group, highlighting their careers and accomplishments.
    • Navigate Your Career: Women Offshore provides resources and guidance from industry experts on promoting career advancement in the offshore and maritime industries. In this section, read about the latest efforts from around the world supporting inclusion to reduce the gender gap.
    • Podcast: listen to the Women Offshore Podcast, hosted by the founder of Women Offshore, Ally Cedeno. She interviews women in the industry and what is relevant to supporting an inclusive culture offshore.
Offshore Lifestyle: Get a first-hand look into what life is like at sea. Women from around the globe share their stories of transiting the world’s oceans.”)
  • The dashboard should show allow the user to search a directory of women from the organization and see who is around to contact that person:
    • A user will see a profile of the person with name, hometown, job, company, education, tagline and links to the social profiles such as LinkedIn, Facebook, etc.
    • We would like the women to be able to talk together on a group, that we’re creating on Whatsapp or Facebook so we’d need to show that link and what is it for
  • The dashboard should have Zoom/ Meeting capability for the organizers to hold Town Halls events
  • What else can it be here to engage the women? We’re looking forward for your ideas and suggestions
