Challenge Summary
Welcome to the “Phoenix Design Thinking Workshop - Design Direction Challenge”! The goal of this challenge is to quickly create "design direction" concepts and guidance for our customer based on our ongoing workshops. Our customer is currently holding a design thinking workshop and they would like to use the artifacts and ideas from that workshop to inspire you (topcoder community) to see what ideas and concepts you would like to contribute back to the design thinking process.
NOTE:
The goal of "Design Direction" is to not create high-fidelity designs but to focus on thinking through the problem and proposing concepts, direction, or user flow for making things easier for our Sales Executive "Andy". Design Direction is a little bit of Information Architecture, a little bit of UI/UX design work to help inspire and create a conversation with our customer, the user (sales team), the development team, etc.
This is a fast challenge (like a RUX), so make sure you are using your time wisely.
Important Rule Change for the Design Direction Challenge
You are allowed to submit your designs at any time during this challenge. You are allowed to submit to the final phase even if you did not submit to the checkpoint phase. All submissions will be accepted (that pass screening).
Note: while we are allowing this challenge to be "open" throughout we do recommend you submit to the checkpoint as we are reviewing LIVE with the customer during their workshop. Adroc will be presenting your designs so please make sure he can understand and follow your idea! Good luck!
Round 1
Submit design direction documentation for the checkpoint deadline:- Throw all your initial ideas here!
- The teams will be reviewing your checkpoints as a group and providing fast feedback
Round 2
Submit your updated design direction documentation for the final deadline and improved based on the checkpoint feedback:- All your concepts screens
PROJECT BACKGROUND
Our customer's SFDC (Salesforce.com) team recently digitized the paper/excel sales flow (Miller Heiman Blue & Gold Sheets) into their SFDC org. The sales team didn't like the UX because there were too many clicks, too many steps while the existing paper version is a single page and is considered easier to "capture the information."
The project goal is to still build it in SFDC (Lightning UI / Lightning Design System) but the team is open to customization/better UX in order to get everything digital and off the paper/excel workflow.
The Design Thinking Workshop will be exploring this flow, user (day in the life), sales methodology, etc.
The design thinking workshop will go through the first 3 stages of Design Thinking.
Stage 1: Empathize - research your users' needs - understand your user.
Stage 2: Define - State your users' needs and problems.
Stage 3: Ideate—Challenge assumptions and create ideas.
This design direction challenge is focused on Stage 4.
Stage 4: Prototype - Start to create solutions (with the Topcoder Community!)
Stage 5 will be after the workshop and after the challenge.
Stage 5: Test - Try your solutions out.
CHALLENGE OBJECTIVES
- Create wireframes, sketches or simple designs to convey your design direction
- This challenge is meant to serve as a precursor to a regular UI design challenge.
- We’d like to see how you think the application could work, potential simplified workflows, and interactions
- Think of this as a low-fidelity design concept challenge.
- Provide fast and rough wireframes to show your concepts.
- Focus on what you think is important in the customer's project and provide design co back to them on where you think the project should go.
Note: We do not need guidance on typography, colors, etc. as previous Design Direction challenges - just focus on the problem, user flows, and "prototyping" your concept.
AUDIENCE
Sellers, Sales managers, Account managers and Large account management (Enterprise customers)
TARGET DEVICE:
1366px width and height as required
REQUIREMENTS
Recently, the client built a salesforce app for the sales methodology, however, stakeholders didn’t like the design and wanted to continue using the Blue & Gold Sheets. Their app actually has all the Blue & Gold Sheet fields and logic already built, but the experience/UX wasn’t well received.
So, the client would like to re-style the “Blue & Gold” Sheet app interface/UI to look exactly the same as a Blue & Gold Sheet (or based on the workshop a better flow that resonates with the user.) This way we get the benefit of structuring and digitizing the data and users still feel like they’re using a familiar workflow
DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP OUTCOMES
Stage 1: Empathize - research your users' needs - understand your user.
- See Empathy Map (2-EmpathyMap.pdf in Artifacts from Workshop folder) where we explored our Client Executive "Andy".
- Andy (male or female) is a sales professional who currently uses the Miller Heiman sales methodology to capture customer details, sales details, to create actionable information on the next steps, etc.
- As you can see from the Empathy Map this process is difficult. So we are looking for ways to digitize it.
Stage 2: Define - State your users' needs and problems.
Our needs statement: Andy needs a low effort and collaborative method to create a presentable, actionable, and trackable plan so that customers and sales objectives can be achieved. (3-Needs Statements.pdf in Artifacts from Workshop folder)
Stage 3: Ideate—Challenge assumptions and create ideas.
- The goal is to digitize this process that is currently contained in spreadsheets.
- The team came up with a variety of ideas (5-Ideation Possible Solutions.pdf in Artifacts from Workshop folder)
- Idea 1: SFDC interface that helps show a percentage done
- Idea 2: SFDC interface showing sales plans and the ability to add now/drag and drop, contacts are pre-populated. Tasks can be assigned.
- Idea 3: Where through color each step is understood and where the data has an impact to show the customer 360 views.
- A possible wizard concept/flow that takes the user through the information (blue/gold sheet) to capture the information. The goal is the ease of use (pre-populated information) along with helpful tips along the way. The end goal is seeing all the data and possible dashboard/analytics of actions they can take.
- Gamification with the sales team (so points, rewards for filling out the information in a timely way)
- Voice input ?
- SFDC Dashboards that show next steps, missing data, actions
- Collaboration - so how can multiple people work together
- Idea to have the customer fill out the form (so how is this easy/sent to the customer?)
- Single page view (similar to what they have) but more intuitive.
- Drag and drop features
- Please review the PDF
- A mobile flow that helps capture the information once they left a meeting?
- DViz Dashboards to show the Gold sheet data
Stage 4: Prototype - Start to create solutions (with the Topcoder Community!)
DELIVERABLES
We want to make this challenge easy and fast, we don't want to have strict requirements on the format of the deliverables you produce. We recommend you think of how your solutions are presented. So, a complete PDF of your design concepts or Axure wireframes or a MarvelApp would make sense. Anything that showcases your ideas the best (and makes it easy to follow).
Adroc will be presenting your Checkpoint and Final designs to the customer so make sure it is easy to review and follow. We are also looking for them to be excited about the variety of thought and see what inspires them as part of the workshop.
- Here are a couple of references from the previous design direction challenge - this will help you understand the type of fidelity and design concepts we are looking for. The elements that we would like to see included in your submissions are: Overall concept description
- Your wireframes/ screens with names and a short description to explain what that page is about. Your screens should be organized in the order you would like them to be seen.
- Place your design in a desktop mockup like in the reference we provided so it gives a more authentic image of how the concept might look. Use Marvelapp to showcase your work.
- Make sure to provide all source files as usual created in Adobe PS, AI, XD, Sketch, etc. and all submission files, if you have created the hand-drawn sketches then submit them as source files.
- If you decide to use Marvel Prototype
- Please send your marvel app request to csystic@gmail.com
- You MUST include your Marvel app URL as a text file in your final submission labeled “MarvelApp URL” (in your marvel app prototype, click on share and then copy the link).
BRANDING GUIDELINES
We have provided client colors that you can possibly use in your designs (please see forums under "challenge assets")
