The goal of this challenge is to design the look and feel of a native iPhone experience.

Problem: The Modern Gardener
In this time of Covid, many people are trying their hand at gardening and becoming passionate about growing their food - vegetables, fruits, herbs, etc. Information about the different types of plants, seeds, and bugs is critical to a successful garden. It is also essential to understand what plants grow fast, need more water, and survive in their local climate. The modern gardener is just learning, and they often want to experiment but don't know enough about plants and how to set them up, fertilize, and maintain them.

With a knowledge assisted library (mobile application), gardeners will solve the problem of retrieving information for their desired harvest on the go. Imagine that you have a plant and you want to know the best time to plant it, fertilize it, how often to water it, what plants are useful to grow next to it, how to keep the bugs off it, what time of year does it grow best (spring, early or late fall), etc.

Design Challenge: Plant identifier
A user could use their phone camera to analyze a plant, a flower, a seed, or a bug to recognize and learn more. The application would show information about the item and make a range of recommendations (based on your location). (e.g., if it is a viable plant for your climate.

User flow (screens are up to you) to capture:
  • A user acquires a new seed from a neighbor and doesn't know what it is.
  • They open the Modern Gardener, and it can scan the seed to take a picture quickly.
  • The user receives a screen with an identification of the seed. It provides insights into the plant. (e.g., Plant name, lifecycle, watering cycle, sunlight exposure cycles, bugs that may harm it, and recommendations on any next steps based on your location)

Note: You have 30 minutes, so make the most of it.
