CHALLENGE OVERVIEW:
Our client is a large global insurance company focused on these core business segments: Global Life and General Insurance.
Users of this IT projects dashboard will be the COO and their main intention is to get a quick look at the dashboard and get an outlook of the status of the overall project based on the country and drill-down on a project to understand the overall progress & issues in each of the projects.
The type of projects may/may not be geography-specific, it could be application-specific too (e.g. Update OS for all the employee's laptops, migrate teams' applications across all geographies, etc).
AUDIENCE:
Chief Operating Officers (COO)
DESIGN GOALS & PRINCIPLES
Below are some of the goals:
- These datasets require a design that can display a lot of table data, in lots of rows. While this is true, try not to have too much information on your screen, you can make them compelling by making the visualization interactive and enable users to walk through or drill into the different insights.
- Elegant, clean, simple, user-centered look and feel with modern aesthetics
- Use color, visual comparison, and drill-down charts to highlight comparison.
- The overall design and user experience
- Engaging and easy-to-use/interact UI
- How well does your design align with the objectives of the challenge?
EXPLORATION SCORE
In terms of expectations, we would like to measure the concept against the following in the one to ten scales (ask the client to rate each of the parameters):
Creativity: 10
1: barely new ideas
10: a utopic product but with features that can be fully implemented
Aesthetics: 8
1: low-fidelity design, wireframe or plain sketch
10: top-notch finished looking visual design
Exploration: 8
1: strictly follow an existing reference or production guideline
10: open to alternative workflows/features not listed here that would help the overall application
Branding: 8
1: don’t care at all about the branding just functionality
10: without a properly branded product there is no success
BRANDING GUIDELINES
Please use the branding that has been provided in the forums
POWER BI REQUIREMENTS
- All principles of good UX design e.g. minimize user clicks, make the experience more intuitive, minimal time to reach desired selection criteria, store user selections for multiple reports and performance, good color and font themes, etc, these are all critical success factors for this challenge.
- Needs to follow Power BI Design Best Practices and also take a look at the Design Tips
- Please do some research on the Power BI software and get familiar with its purpose, limitations, and what's possible.
- You can reference this video about Power BI.

TARGET DEVICE
Desktop: 1366px width and height 768px
REQUIRED FEATURES:
- Intuitive experience for end customers
- Developer friendly and easy to build designs
- Easy to translate to Microsoft Power BI reports.
- Allow a different variety of charts and data visualization. Think about filtering, sorting, and exporting the data.
- User will be accessing this dashboard on a Monthly, Quarterly (once in a week) basis
SCREEN REQUIREMENTS
For this challenge, we are looking for the below screens to be created in your submission. The functionality details listed below need to be included in your solution:
01 1 IT Projects Dashboard
- This dashboard shows the overall status of the projects across different countries
- Provide a way for the user to filter the projects by countries,
- The project sheet is updated on a weekly or monthly basis / so we need to make sure your visualizations indicates this or provide a way to filter on a weekly or monthly basis
- Think about what filters we need to include for this dashboard
- Need to show the individual progress of projects across different countries
- These are the metrics that you include in your visualization
- Project ID
- Project Name
- Project Manager
The type of projects may/may not be geography-specific. It could be application-specific too. Examples for project types
- Update OS for all the employee's laptops,
- Migrate teams application across all geographies, etc
These 5 attributes below are updated on a weekly or monthly basis
- Highlights (these will contain the actual text that was entered in the project sheet)
- Lowlights (these will contain the actual text that was entered in the project sheet)
- Risks (these will contain the actual text that was entered in the project sheet)
- Issues (show the list of all the issues that have been logged, clicking on an issue will show the drilled-down details around tickets/incidents (like incident date, Incident number, Incident status)
- Next steps (these will contain the actual text that was entered in the project sheet)
Some calculation based on the status of the project
- % of milestones on schedule
- % of milestones overdue
- Current update date (this shows the last updated date for the 5 attributes mentioned above)
The data for the above will come from a project template format which is filled by project members for each project.
01 2 Project Details Dashboard:
Please refer to "Project Sheet Template.xlsx"
As mentioned above, the data that we show in this dashboard is the drilled-down data
- We have provided sample data for a project (Sample Project Data.csv), this is just an example to show how the project data might be, and with what the visualizations will be generated. Note: Not all project data will look the same / so it will be different for different types of projects and projects will not always be geographic specific / it will be application-specific too.
- Wherever you think filters would be applicable, please include them.
- Below are some specific information for a project, think through how to represent them as a visualization / for some of the below it would be more of text and it is fine to include them on the dashboard (NOTE: This information are captured from “Issue log, Gantt Chart and Weekly status” tabs in Project Sheet Template.xlsx)
- Issues/Incidents: For each of the projects, issues are logged
- “Show the "% of milestones on schedule and % of milestones overdue”: This data are calculated from the Gnatt chart.
- Weekly Status: This shows the below and these can be shown as:
- Highlights (ex: Installation of the server completed successfully)
- Lowlights (ex: Part of the supplier's team did not join the installation call and therefore the installation had to be rescheduled)
- Risks & Issues (ex: Delayed installation would cause the delay in going live)
- Next steps (ex: Schedule follow up meeting with the supplier's team to review the installation)
02 IISB Dashboard
This is a separate dashboard, below is the list of KPIs required for this dashboard.
- For all the below mentioned KPI, we will be tracking/receiving the data from different countries (BENE, FR, NORDIC, RU, ZIP, SE)
- Include countries in filters and also anything you think the visualization needs to be filtered by?
- Follow the title and the grouping mentioned below.
- For all these KPI's value will be mentioned as percentage / so pretty straight forward, please make sure your design doesn’t include just one of the graphs to indicate this / think differently
Access and Password Management:
a) % of systems considered business-critical without periodic access recertification
- Example: 5% for the year 2018, etc
b) % of applications containing confidential data without least privilege and segregation of duties
- Limit will be 10% i.e. only 10% of the application are allowed to contain the confidential data
- These percentages will be the same for the entire year
- You can use color-coding to indicate the percentage between 0 and 10% (within the limit) and if it goes beyond 10% need to indicate in different colors
c) % of servers not enforcing password requirements
Security
d) % of internet-facing websites scanned with high vulnerabilities
e) % of critical applications without fully operationalized disaster recovery capability
Third-Party ManagementCluster Name
f) % of critical applications hosted by 3rd parties not meeting disaster recovery obligations
Awareness and Training
g) % of users susceptible to phishing
% of employees not having reported phishing attempts as part of exercises
Endpoint Protection
h) % of endpoints without hard drives encrypted
% of systems without up to date malware protection signatures
% of endpoints not protected by active Data Loss Prevention (DLP)
Logging and Monitoring
i) % of critical security systems not enrolled in centralized security logging and monitoring solution
% of servers supporting critical applications not enrolled in centralized security logging and monitoring solutions.
Vulnerability Management and Incident Response
j) % of servers hosting critical applications without active vulnerability scanning
% of servers have patches not applied within the time frame required
