Problem Statement

Background

It’s almost a year now since the ongoing pandemic changed our lives. Lots of households had their livelihoods affected. For the most part, institutions and companies that depended made the digital transformation - moved their processes and services online - were largely unaffected. There was the initial shock of having your productivity disrupted, but now, workplaces have stabilized to adapt to their employees working from the comfort of their homes - and this is not just the IT sector. Teachers, Doctors, Bank employees - even ministers in the government - can stay at home and through computers and the internet, carry out their daily activities.

While earlier, employees were restricted to living in the vicinity of their office, they are no longer bound by these geographical restrictions and now have the freedom to work from anywhere, thanks to electronic devices that can now be monitored and worked with through the internet. They are now digital nomads - unrestricted to any boundaries of stay and can travel freely the length and breadth of the country, while still earning.

Problem Statement

This presents a unique opportunity to the city, state, and country’s administration - while before, citizens had to migrate from different parts of the country to cities or towns to look for a job and for a place to stay, putting stress on the infrastructure and public services, citizens can now stay where they are most comfortable or keep travelling, while still working - thereby freeing up overloaded assets to work efficiently. Vice Versa, the administration now has to account for their citizens no longer feeling the need to migrate to popular cities and using the services and infrastructure in their hometowns to improve their quality of life.

Assume that you are part of the task force appointed by the Government (Any government - central, state, or even at the local municipal level). As part of this task force, you are encouraged to come up with how the local (or state and central administration) can utilize this opportunity (less or lessen the burden on cities while improving quality of life in towns) efficiently and make the most of it - to improve their revenues (through taxes or by other means) and in the process also improve their citizens’ quality of life and adapt to the shifting dynamics of their citizen's lives.

Following domains are what you need to consider in your thought process:

  • One or more essential service improvements: HealthCare, Cooking Gas, Electricity or Water Supply
  • One or more private space improvements: Real Estate, Entertainment or Education
  • One or more public space improvements: Landscapes and Tourism

Final Submission Guidelines

In the process you need to submit:

  • A prototype of a web or mobile-based application that compliments your proposal - aids in achieving the objectives of your proposal.
  • A README file with instructions on how to deploy your application on any one of the following PaaS - Heroku, AWS, [Surge](https://surge.sh/) or [Vercel](https://vercel.com/)
  • A Powerpoint presentation (PPT) that describes your proposal on how the government:
  • Can utilize this opportunity to increase their revenues
  • Can improve the quality of life of these digital nomads

Judging Criteria

Your submission will be judged for:

  • Feasibility (20%)
  • Impact and value addition (20%)
  • Innovation (20%)
  • Your prototype application (25%)
  • Your presentation (15%). The PPT that you provide should succinctly describe your proposal without the need for any additional explanations.

Points To Note

  • You can present a high-level overview of your proposal or a very specific aspect of it. Either is fine.
  • Supporting your proposals with any media (images, publicly accessible videos, or any other references) would go miles in helping the reviewers understand your ideas.
  • You are also encouraged to use any API(s) that are non-commercial in your proposal/prototype.
