PROBLEM STATEMENT

In this challenge we are looking to create a Smart Travel Assistant mobile application.  This is a concept application so we are looking for your suggestions and ideas for the best user experience.

  • The application will help guide the user when travelling to a new city / country about what’s the best method to get to the destination, provide details about the objective to visit as well as show smart suggestions based on the user's preferences and past history.
  • The application will serve as the main helper in the new city for all things related to travelling, shopping, eating, etc.
  • For this RUX, we are focusing on designing the application for an iOS mobile

TARGET AUDIENCE
  • Any tourists visiting new places

PERSONA
  • Name: Vijay Kapoor
  • Occupation: Developer
  • Goals:
    • Vijay would like to visit London and have one application to help him when exploring the city
  • Frustrations:
    • Vijay has now 4 applications that help him guide around for travel transportation, restaurants, points of interest, shopping, etc.  As the applications are not connected, many times he misses visiting objectives while he is in a specific area
    • They applications are also not smart, so they don’t provide recommendations based on his previous experiences or other preferences he has
    • Most of the applications are classic - no augmented reality, voice command feature is used
  • Wants:
    • One application that would be the go to for all things when travelling, which would give smart suggestions and use modern features as augmented reality, etc.

USER STORY
  • Vijay is travelling to the UK to visit London. He has settled at his hotel and now he wants to see Madame Tussauds wax museum. He is opening the application and searches for the best transportation method to get there.
  • The application gives him several transportation methods such as buses, trams, uber, bike, walking and related detailed information for how much time it takes  to get there. The application is also aware of any weather conditions or traffic blockages that happen real time (so it won’t suggest going by bicycle if it rains). He chooses to go by bus. The bus leaves him 300m close to the museum and from there it suggests walking directions.
  • It also shows other points of interests that he could visit in the area such as parks, museums, etc. As he keeps moving the suggested list keeps updating and  he can refine the radius area for suggestions real time. Vijay is setting a smaller radius and he is seeing an indian restaurant in 50m which he is adding to his To Go List after visiting the museum.
  • Vijay reaches Madame Tussauds museum and the application will show him several information about the museum, such as time open, ticket cost, busy hours, etc. and gives him the option to buy the ticket online.

FEATURES TO THINK ABOUT
  • Voice command/Siri etc.
  • Augmented Reality Features when walking or being around an objective
  • Schedules based on Train, Uber, Bike, Walking .. from here to there
  • Uber, Lyft integration (3rd party app integration?)
  • What is the best "route" ? (so options/descriptions on the routes)
  • The app is connected to other apps in your phone such as calendar, notes, agenda, YELP and can give smart suggestions such as: the birthday of your friend is coming so you could buy a gift for him from London or your favorite food type is butter chicken and the app will suggest you the indian restaurant that’s close. The user has the options to approve or reject these suggestions.

MOBILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Design screens for iPhone 8
  • This is a native iOS application
  • We only need 5-6 screens - so design what you think will "showcase" this application the best from the pages below.
  • In these RUX challenges, the "Concepts" you propose really help the presentation. It's very important how the application works, not just how it looks.

SUGGESTED SCREENS
1. Dasboard
  • This becomes a priority screen for this type of application. What are the key things that should be displayed?
  • The user should be able to quickly search for a place to go
  • We need you to explore the best UI/UX that is able to easily guide our user and how they understand their options + destination.
  • The application can suggest potential points of interests (POI) for the user to see in a city while visiting such as points of interests, restaurants, shopping places, etc.

2. Trip Suggestions
  • Show the available trips options result to the user on this page.
    • Once the user has searched for the destination, Madame Tussauds museum in London for example, he will see a list of transportation options available at that time such as.
    • Personal Car
    • Bus
    • Uber
    • Subway
    • Lift
    • Bicycle
    • Walk
    • etc. (what other options?)
  • These results will be shown in priority order, the most appropriate and convenient ways of the trips will show at the top section with some flag, for example "Recommended Routes"  to get user attention.
  • The application will doing analysis on user trip routes based on many criteria (weather report, time of the trips, schedules, traffic congestion, etc)

3. Route Details
  • If a user wants to see more details about the trip's options, they can click the trip suggestion results.
  • Show related information that fits into the details page here, such as:
    • Integration with 3rd Party apps (uber integrated, etc)
    • Information details about the route (time needed to reach destination, GPS route, weather condition, etc?)
    • Any related points of interests that are along the user trip
    • Payment options to handle cost for the trip
Assume the user choses to go by bus.

4. Notifications
As the user he gets of the bus, the application shows him several notifications on his screen among which:
  • First that he is 300m away from the Madame Tussauds museum and it suggests walking directions
  • Second it shows a list of points of interests around that area that he could visit such as parks, museums, etc.

5. Walking Directions
As the user starts walking to the museum, the application is showing him in real time different places of interest that he could visit or restaurants, based on his position, past habits and a radius of 500m around his position.  Examples of these are:
  • Queen Mary’s Rose Gardens
  • Sherlock Holmes Museum
  • Sherlock Holmes Statues
  • Indian restaurant
  • Etc. (feel free to add others)
Think about what features you can add here to enhance the user’s experience (Augmented reality, voice commands. etc.).

The user is setting a smaller radius and the list gets reduced so now he is seeing an indian restaurant in 50m which he is adding to his To Go List after visiting the museum.

6. Point of Interest Details (optional screen)
As the user gets to the museum, he will see several details about it such as:
  • Schedule
  • Ticket cost
  • Busy hours
  • General description
  • Anything else? Up to you
