Challenge Summary

Welcome to the “NASA MPATH Logo Design Challenge”! In this challenge, we are looking for your ideas and skills to design a logo for the NASA Ground Control Station, that we have previously designed in other challenges.

Note: If you create multiple concepts, please create different submissions. If the designs are very close and there are just some variations, include them in the same submission.

Round 1

Initial design for a Checkpoint Feedback:
1. Initial concepts of the logo
2. Any notes you wish to share with the client

Round 2

Final Design plus Checkpoint Updates:
1. Final presentation of the logo, with checkpoint feedback implemented
2. Any notes you wish to share with the client

BACKGROUND OVERVIEW
  • The logo we are creating here will be used in the NASA GCS (Ground Control Station) interface, but will not be prominent there. In this Marvel project you can see the latest design for the NASA GCS created in previous Topcoder challenges. The logo will be placed where the NASA Meatball logo is now.
  • The software name is MPATH which stands for "Measuring Performance for Autonomy Teaming with Humans", but the full name should not be included in the logo. The text to be used in the logo is “MPATH” or “MPATH Ground Control Station”.
  • We would like the logo to be simple, clean, text-based design
  • Logos with icons are also welcomed
  • Keywords for inspiration: autonomy, AI, drones, human factors
  • DO NOT try to replicate NASA logos in any way
  • The logo will be used for the application icon and for promotional materials, but will not be prominent within the GCS UI (the logo should look good at small scale too)
  • Concept, composition, and simplicity will be taken into serious consideration in the selection process. We are looking for characteristics common to many great logos; clean, simple, and easy to recognize.
  • The logo should encapsulate the message of the subject very quickly and be memorable.
  • Logos should be effective in a variety of sizes, large and small.
  • The logo will need to appear over both light and dark backgrounds.

REQUIREMENTS
Your logo design submission must follow these requirements:
  • Your logo should include “MPATH” for one option and  “MPATH Ground Control Station” for the other option
  • We would like to see logos that include icons for related themes above, but also logos that will look good as standalone texts
  • Source designs must be created as VECTOR artwork so they may be resized without a loss of quality.
  • Provide an outlined version of your logo.
  • For presentation purpose, include design options showing:
  • Full Color, on white background
  • Full Color, on black background
  • Black & White, on white background
  • Black & White, on black background
  • Logo placed in NASA Ground Control Station preview design instead of the NASA Meatball logo
  • Final submissions must be provided in the formats: .ai, .eps and .png. We will need versions with a white background, black background, and transparent background.
  • You may include your thought process for your design in a text file/notes with your submission.

BRANDING GUIDELINES
  • Palette: Should use colors derived from and/or complementary to NASA GCS UI.
  • Fonts: The font used for NASA GCS is LucidaSans, but you can use other fonts than this.

DESIGN INSPIRATION
Explore some logo design inspiration websites. A good logo should be: simple, distinctive, relevant, memorable, timeless, and versatile - and most importantly your own design. Use these references for inspiration only:
JUDGING CRITERIA
Your submission will be judged on the following criteria:
  • Relevance: How does your logo "fit" the subject described?
  • Quality: Does your logo look fresh, professional, and clean? Is the composition/layout well done? Have you used typography in a meaningful way?
  • Concept: Does your logo present a new and interesting concept? Is it simple, yet memorable?
