CHALLENGE OBJECTIVES
- To design the "My Gigs" Status page for our Gig Worker candidates within the EARN Framing Application layout.
- The goal is to have a proper way for Gig Worker candidates to track their job/gig application through the recruitment life cycle and easily update their profile resumes in order to allow candidates to be more engaged throughout the recruitment process.
- For this challenge, you need to focus on finding the best solution on how to present data for the Gig Worker.
- Sketch file is the only accepted design tool/source type for this challenge.
BACKGROUND OVERVIEW
- Gig Work at Topcoder is part of our TaaS (Talent as a Service) offering and it is one of several ways that Topcoder engages with its customers if they prefer to work directly with individual resources as opposed to accessing the Topcoder Community via challenges.
- For this challenge, our focus is for the Gig worker/Topcoder Members to easily find, tracking, and understand about the status of the Gigs/jobs they applied to and to update their profile resume.
- Currently our Gig Worker/Candidates do not have a one-stop page to understand the status of the jobs they applied to and to update their profile. All status notifications and profile updates have to be manually generated by the Ops team via email, which lowers the speed and ease at which candidates can take ownership of their own candidacy.
- We provide the EARN base design as your base, do not introduce a new colour or styling strictly using what is already there. What you should focus on the most is the flow of how the Gig Worker should handle information.
DESIGN GOALS & PRINCIPLES
- Easy to use interface, The design should follow the current Branding, styling and behaviour provided in this challenge. So please make sure your design is consistent and feels like a part of the whole application.
- A simplified process managing working period actions. Utilize iconography, symbols to help analyze the data faster.

TARGET AUDIENCE
- Gig Worker Candidates
- Please conside that 60% or more of our Gig Worker candidates may know nothing about Topcoder
PERSONA
- Name: James May
- Occupation: Front End Developer
- Goals:
- Tracking status of his gig/job applications easily in the system
- Engaged more in the recruitment life cycle so he doesn’t lose an opportunity
- Frustrations:
- Currently, to find the latest status of gig/job applications in the system, he needs to reach out and contact the Ops team/Recruitment team and wait for them to provide any information which takes time and is less efficient.
- Sometimes, he receives a notification in his email from the recruitment team to update his profile resume but the gig/job opportunity has been closed before he is able to update it. This means there is a time gap happening that makes he is late to engaged and makes him lose opportunity to land a gig work for himself
GLOSSARY
- Micro-App - are a new pattern where web application UIs (front ends) are composed of semi-independent fragments that can be built by different teams using different technologies. Micro-front end architectures resemble back-end architectures where back ends are composed of semi-independent microservices
- Framing Application - You will see this phrase mentioned in the challenge, this refers to the Header and sub-nav design provided in the branding guidelines
CHALLENGE FORUM
- If you have any doubts or questions regarding challenge requirements, please ask in our challenge forum: https://apps.topcoder.com/forums/?module=ThreadList&forumID=830398
DOCUMENTATION
- EARN base design (keep the header and left sidebar, design your solution within the frame)
- Topcoder Design Guidelines or download it from this LINK directly
- Gigs User Journey (as reference to understand the Gigs application process)
SCREEN REQUIREMENTS
01) My Gigs Page
- This is the current state of our “My Gigs” page: https://marvelapp.com/prototype/g0i7agh/screen/76792723
- We need a new design screen for our Gig worker candidates where they can see a proper information of:
- List of Gigs/Jobs that they applied to
- Current Application Status - we need a way to properly educate the Gig Worker so they aware and understand the status below in the screen:
- Applied - They clicked submit on an application and no one has looked at their resume yet
- Phone Screen - They either need to or have scheduled a phone Screen with a Topcoder Screener
- Screen Pass - They Had their resume reviewed and passed the phone screen
- Interview Process - They need to schedule or an interview has been scheduled with the client
- Selected - They are selected by the client and an offer letter should follow shortly
- Offered - An offer letter was sent
- Placed - An offer was accepted and onboarding will begin soon
- Not selected - Any time along the process that they are rejected
- Remarks on the application status - Typically client or recruiter notes)
- Basic Details on Gig for Quick Reference:
- Name of Gig
- Payment Range
- Hours (40, 20/week, etc.)
- Location
- Working hours (Time zone)
- A quick button to update their profile resume
- Example - if a candidate was at "Interview Process" the additional remarks could say "Round 1 scheduled for January 1, 2021 11:00 EST" or anything that the recruiter wants to highlight
- This page should be very informative which makes the Gig worker candidate can easily find information regarding application status. If you are applying for a gig/job and waiting for an update, what do you want to see here when you open the page?
- This page will have more information added later in the future, for example, we will have a feature to Tracking payments, feedback, etc. However, these are not in scope for this challenge. We just want you to consider how your design could expand to these other areas, when these additional features are added.
02) Update Profile Resume Page
- We need a design for the update profile resume page.
- The Key Elements that the Gig Worker will be able to edits are:
- City and Country
- Phone Number
- Resume Upload (PDF)
- Availability - Available or Unavailable or Placed (Basically asking if the candidate is open to take on new jobs or not. The third status "Placed" is not editable. It just means they are on a topcoder gig already)
- Other basic information such as their handle, name, email (should not be editable)
- Adding a notice/warning to this page is important - "Uploading a resume will change your resume for all jobs that you apply to. You are only able to have one unique resume with Topcoder"
- Provides a Link on this page where it will redirect the Gig Worker to Update their Actual topcoder profile page for updating their skills.
- For more information about Gig worker details that need to be provided in the application, you can refer to our current page here as an example: https://www.topcoder.com/gigs/26751764/apply
- Please feel free to decide on how you want to create this page, whether you want to create it as a popup directly in the “My Gigs” page, or as a stand alone page, we are open to any suggestion!
