PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • As Topcoder’s success relies on its members, we are constantly looking for ways to attract new talent so that we can deliver more and more high quality outcomes to our clients.
  • Since trends are changing all the time, we also have to keep up and want to improve our brand and the way we present ourselves to the outside world.
  • In this challenge we are looking for new concepts to promote gig work on Topcoder to new and existing members as well as people looking for freelance opportunities.

AUDIENCE

  • Topcoder developers and designers.
  • People who are interested in freelance work.

BANNER REQUIREMENTS

We will use the banners resulting from this challenge in our Google Ads, LinkedIn and Quora campaigns, so we listed the elements we expect you to include in the designs. We are asking you to create 8 concepts and deliver each in 5 different sizes. By concept we mean different design ideas, not just color variations or so.

1 Content
For each banner concept you should include the below three items:

  • Topcoder logo: you mustn't change the logo shape or color.
  • Photo: photos fromTopcoder’s Flickr albums.
  • Tagline: choose one from the below options for your concept.
    • Freedom, Flexibility, and Freelance Technology Work
    • Find the Best Freelance Technology Jobs
    • Join Topcoder to Thrive and Do What You Love
    • The Fastest Way to Find Freelance Technology Jobs
    • Find Global, Remote Work Freelance Technology Jobs
    • Is Topcoder Good for Finding Freelance Technology Jobs?

2 Banner sizes

a. Topcoder Profile Image - 1 or more images in total
Use the Topcoder logo or icon without modifications, and come up with a background / layout that would make it more attractive, eye catching and fun
  • 1 or more variations: 1:1 - 320 x 320 px

b. Topcoder social media banners
For each of the 8 concepts we ask you to deliver the sizes specified below for each size with related aspect ratio and width x height:
  • Size 1: 1.91:1 - 1200 x 628 px (width x height)
  • Size 2: 1:1 - 1200 x 1200 px
  • Size 3: 4:5 - 720 x 900 px
  • Size 4: 1:1.91 - 628 x 1200 px
  • Size 5: 2:3 - 600 x 900 px

We are providing this template to visually guide you on the banner sizes and naming.

Keep in mind we wish the design to look good and be usable on mobile as well, and we’d like you to place the same banners sizes both in a Marvel desktop project as well as in a Marvel mobile project. Make sure to check if the texts are readable and photos look well on mobile as this is an important judging criteria.

Please follow the naming convention suggested here: “Concept 1 - Size 1.png “, “Concept 1 - Size 2.png “, etc.

DESIGN GOALS & PRINCIPLES

  • Roughly 70% will view banners from a mobile device, so design and copy (text size) should take that into consideration.
  • The designs have to be visually appealing and engaging.
  • We are encouraging the use of photography as it gives more authenticity. Make sure the photos show the diversity and many different cultures within our community.
  • The Topcoder brand should be taken into account. Any new elements in the banners have to support the brand.

BRANDING GUIDELINES

  • Although you have a high level of freedom in creating the banners, the Topcoder GUI Kit will help you to stay within the boundaries.
  • You can find the Topcoder logo here.
  • Streamline icons have been shared on the challenge forum.

JUDGEMENT CRITERIA

  • Creativity: Impactful: open to new, attractive ideas
  • Exploration: Flexible: we would like to see something new, something fresh
  • Aesthetics: Hi-fidelity design: provide a top-notch finished looking visual design, that is highly suitable for mobile viewers.
