The Challenge
Cisco ServiceGrid is a cloud-based integration platform that enables seamless service collaboration across multiple organizations by automating data exchange and process orchestration. To modernize the platform’s user experience, Cisco sought an intuitive, next-generation interface that would allow Advanced Services professionals to design, manage, and configure complex Message Flows with greater ease and precision.
The challenge was to conceptualize and prototype a desktop-based application UI that included advanced features like drag-and-drop Message Flow construction, component configuration, and a visual data transformation tool—all with enterprise-grade usability and scalability in mind.
The Solution
Cisco partnered with Topcoder to launch a series of crowdsourcing challenges focused on redesigning and prototyping its ServiceGrid UI. Designers delivered clean, intuitive concepts for key screens including the Dashboard, Message Flow Designer, and Transformation View. Developers then translated the designs into responsive HTML/JavaScript prototypes using frameworks like Bootstrap and JointJS.
The result was a fully interactive, scalable UI that supports drag-and-drop flows, modular configuration, and visual data mapping—built rapidly and ready for internal validation.

The Result
The Impact
Through Topcoder’s on-demand design and development talent, Cisco rapidly explored and validated its next-gen ServiceGrid UI concept—moving from initial ideas to functioning prototypes in weeks. The challenges generated dozens of screen submissions, with creative variations that gave Cisco critical insight into user interaction models, scalability, and real-world usability.
The final prototypes equipped Cisco with a strong design foundation to accelerate internal development, significantly reducing the time required to plan and test complex UI behavior for its advanced integration platform.
