The Challenge
The XPRIZE Foundation needed a responsive portal to streamline operations and engagement for its high-impact innovation competitions. This platform would serve thousands of global users—including competitors, judges, mentors, ambassadors, and partners—managing every aspect of their participation, from registration to team collaboration, document submission, and program tracking.
A key requirement was to deliver a fresh, intuitive interface that did not reuse existing XPRIZE branding and could scale to over 100,000 users while remaining visually engaging and highly functional.
The Solution
Through a Topcoder design challenge, the Foundation tapped into global UI/UX expertise to explore multiple design concepts for the portal. Designers created desktop and mobile screens for dashboards, team pages, prize listings, user profiles, onboarding experiences, and advanced search functionality.
The resulting work offered a sleek, LinkedIn-style experience tailored for innovation challenges—with unique flows for different user roles and built-in prompts to guide first-time users. The flexible, responsive design emphasized usability while enabling future scalability for XPRIZE’s fast-evolving programs.

The Impact
